I just bought both on sale in the last week. There are a couple of ways to do it but, wondering if there’s a consensus on using the 2 units together. Do you send 4 tracks of midi to the A4? Or do you just send clock to the A4 and let the A4’s sequencer take care of the rest? By the way, I’m still just slogging thru the OT manual right now, as it is. I have this crazy idea of doing semi-improvised IDM with these two boxes only…I may add a Rtym later but, I’d like to wrap my head around these two first
I just use the A4’s sequencer the little I’ve used them as a pair. I feel like there’s more fine-tune control. However, if you see the benefit of it all being in one box, or if you could see yourself wanting to have the MIDI sequencing something else at some point, might be better to just keep it all in the OT.
But those probabilistic controls in the A4 make it worthwhile to do it separately.

Check the pattern transition trick to live record the a4 then plock the playback loop for live remixing and glitchy idm style weirdness.

It depends … as far as step sequencing is concerned, I use the Elektron sequencer in the A4/AK. Since the new A4/AK OS update, we have conditional locks, which the OT does not support. If I link OT and my AK, OT is the master clock and AK slave.
But if I need some linear sequencing for AK voices, I connect to a corresponding sequencer, of course.

I prefer Ot’s arp, as you can use lfo and plock to modulate its parameters.
