Octatrack Program Change with External Synth

HI,

I have an issue with sending program change messages from the OT to my Novation KS Rack.

I always use the KS Rack in Performance mode which gives me four part multimbrality.

With the current set up it works to a degree but there are some problems.

I’m using MIDI track 5 set to MIDI channel 16 for the global MIDI channel, and this is where I’m setting the MIDI NOTE SETUP parameters. The KS Rack’s global MIDI channel is also set to 16.

I have also set the OT to send out PROG CH from the SYNC menu.

I have one pattern (Pattern 9) that is governed by Part 1 so I can set up a different PROG number in MIDI NOTE SETUP page.

I have the PROG parameter in MIDI NOTE SETUP set to the KS Rack’s performance number that I wish this Part to use (in this case Performance 181). Although, the number it responds to that I’ve set in the OT is 81, not 181.

The other pattern (Pattern 5) is governed by Part 2, so I can have an alternate PROG number in MIDI NOTE SETUP. The PROG number here is set to 67, and changes the KS Rack Performance number to 167.

On both Patterns on my global MIDI channel track (MIDI Track 5), I have CC3 set to CC32 which sets the KS Rack to play in Performance mode (CC value has to be 65).

It works, but not always. Most of the time it will go from Pattern 9 (which uses Part 1/PROG 81), to Pattern 5 (which uses Part 2/PROG 67. But when I change back to Pattern 9, it messes up - it either changes to a completely different Performance number on the KS, or requires me to press the STOP button on the OT three times to reset the PROG change.

Any ideas?

I know this is a long winded and in depth post but hopefully one of you guys will be genius enough to help me solve the mystery!
