There seems to be another thread on EU that never really seemed to resolve itself:
I just got my Octatrack Already in an hour of fiddling with it I’m just imagining how amazing it can be once you figure it out.
Of course I’m just at the very beginning of the journey… I finally managed to figure out midi sequencing and am now trying to record a 1 bar sample from my waldorf blofeld that is sequenced by midi.
I’ve followed the live sampling video step by step but nothing seems to record in the buffer:
[ol]
[li]Select an audio track[/li]
[li]Set flex recorder buffer 1[/li]
[li]Fn+Record AB, setup the recording to IN AB, RLEN 16[/li]
[li]In this screen, enter grid record, place one record trig at T1[/li]
[li]Press play - the midi track plays the blofeld and I see AB lighting up and the record track moving.[/li]
[li]Press stop, turn down volume on blofeld, set a playback trig on the track[/li]
[/ol]
And nothing happens, it didn’t seem to record anything, any tips on where in the process I’m going wrong?
I think you are not deleting the RECORD TRIG. So when you press play after muting the BLOFELD and pressing playing, the BUFFER is being recorded again as you have not deleted the TRIG.
I’m using Track 6 for the recording buffer, so I muted all the other tracks… My midi sequence is on Midi Track 1 (I don’t know if that matters). Does a thru machine need to be enabled for recording? None of the videos seem to mention this…
You´ve got both IN A B and SRC 3 = track 1 set to ON in recording menu.
SRC 3 won´t get give input since you´ve muted all other tracks (including track 1).
IN A B, may very well go into recorder buffer 6. But in playback menu you´ve got buffer 1 selected?

Sorry I had set SRC 3 = T1 just as a test accidentally.
But AB should go to Buffer 1 if that’s what the machine is set to, no? Or is that really the problem?
Ahhhhhh…
And therein lies the problem. So the Recording Buffer # is tied to the specific track #?
Just out of curiosity, is there no way to record to a different buffer on a different track? (Although I don’t see why I would have to do this, just wondering)
Works perfectly now! Thank you so much.

YEY!!!
Recorder buffer aren´t tied to any specific track (except for pickup machines).
So on each OT channel, you´ve gotta keep track on which inputs (A,B,C,D + SRC3) you´re recording from and which recorder buffer (1-8) you´re recording to. But also which recorder buffer (1-8) you want to use in playback (in each channel: 1-8).
And whenever you´ve got something in the buffer that you actually want to save to use later, you have to do it manually (see p.54 in manual).
Ah I think I understand it now, so, any time I hit T# and Fn+Record, it is for that particular buffer?
Wow, this machine is really wonderful and really incredibly fun to use.
Yes, it does take a little to grasp (I´m still learning something everytime I use mine).
But as soon as you do get the differencies between record and playback in regard to all the buffers, you realize that there isn´t necessarily just one way to do things in each track.
It´s the (beautiful) nature of the beast in such a complex machine…
