I’ve connected MIDI to USB interface from OT to my laptop to use as a USB controller - drivers are installed correctly, and Ableton is seeing the MIDI interface and IN/OUT/Remote is activated. what settings on the Otatrack do I need to make for it to properly send CC messages? Any real help is appreciated. Thanks

Don’t think the OT can do MIDI over USB. You may need to use the DIN sockets. USB is mainly for getting files in and out of the OT. Overbridge is the much-awaited way for DAWs to talk to Elektron, but only for recent boxes like A4 and Analog Rytm. Older boxes like the OT, MM etc aren’t part of this sadly.

If I’ve got the above wrong, no doubt I’ll be standing corrected;-)

I’ll stand right by you then, because this is my impression too. The Octatrack’s USB connection is for file transfer only. Very deceptive.

I have the feeling, that the TS actually used a midi interface with din-midi cables going into the octatrack, with a usb-plug at the other side…

he claims the usb-midi interface is seen… but he doesnt seem to get midi from the octatrack:

step 1: check in your setup if audio-CC’s are turned on… (search manual if you dont know where to look) if not activated… the whole audio-side of the octatrack will NOT!! send out midi-parameters… then again… i doubt it if you want those anyways… i would leave them off!

the midi-sequencer-part of the octatrack, should be able to be used as a midi-controller… there are a few things though:

if the midi-sequencer shares midichannel with the audiosequencer, midi doesnt work propperly… depending on settings some stuff doesnt respond correctly… (difficult to explain, experiment with this yourself)

for argument sake: lets say the first 9 midichannels are used for the audio-sequencer and such… then midichannel 10 to 16 are available for “external things” … go to a miditrack… selected an unused midi-channel… once done correctly, chromatic mode, should send out midi-notes… try it…
if you got that working… setup your octatrack, that the knobs know what CC to send… setup your daw, that some parameter responds to that midichannel + that cc… once done… twist knob… see if that works…

when you got it all working… try to sequence some vst within your daw, by the midi-sequencer of your octatrack…

remember: after your setup a CC in the midi-sequencer… press function+knob to actually activate the fucker (this is what most people forget)…

Enjoy

U can buy MIDI DIN for the MIDI sockets that convert to a USB connection - this is what I’m talking about → I am trying to use one of these - it is, in actuality, being seen
