Octatrack + Nanokontrol

Hi.

Now I know there are topics about this here and elsewhere, quite frankly I am still stuck even after reading all of them. Im a novice and havent been able to use the device for long as it is not mine.

Now as for the question itself - I am attempting to have Nanokontrols knobs\faders mapped to different parameters, but for some reason I have not gotten it to work.

I would like to have the faders from 1 to 8 mapped to the levels of 1-8 OT tracks.

I have set the “Audio CC in” to be enabled, “Prog CH” both send and receive on with Ch being auto and Channels are default, with “11” being Auto.

I have set the first fader, for testing purposes, to send CC #7 (Track level), second #47 (Cue level) and some other parameters, but I cannot get anything to move in OT. Ableton/Soundcard both show midi signals happening/going out.

Was hoping to figure this out but seems like I need some assistance. Anyone care to shed some light as to how you got it sorted? Thanks

What MIDI channels are your OT audio tracks set to?

On which MIDI channel(s) is the Nanokontrol sending information?

They are set as default, e.g. Trig CH1 = CH1, 2 = 2 and so on.

Nanokontrol is transmitting signals on CH1.

Also, I have the CC Direct Connect on off.

The CC DIRECT CONNECT setting should not matter for this application.

Everything else seems to be set appropriately, so it’s time to debug your set-up:

check any routing and cabling between the Nanokontrol and the OT;
use a MIDI monitor program on your computer (Windows/OS X?) to see what messages are arriving from the Nanokontrol when you move the faders;
if you have another controller or can set up Ableton Live appropriately, use it to try sending the appropriate messages to the OT

Thanks for the help, I’ll go thru the cabling from the ground up and Ill try sending CC just from ableton to see if it will work first.

As for the Midi Control Chart. It is slightly hard to read and make out. For instance, if there is CC7 for Track Level, then I assume it is for Track 1. How would I go about mapping T2-T8?

Send the CC 7 message on the appropriate MIDI channel for the OT’s audio track.

In an earlier post, you said that you assigned MIDI channel 1 to OT audio track 1, MIDI channel 2 to OT audio track 2, and so on.

I suppose the only question remains is how do I set different faders to send different channels. I have not been able to find a way to configure that in Kontrol Editor. Sorry for having you spoonfeed me the steps. :x

I don’t have a nanoKONTROL, but I downloaded the Korg editor application and I couldn’t find a way to set different faders to send on different channels.

Therefore I do not believe that the nanoKONTROL is suitable for your application.
Edit: see frankie138’s post below for a more informed conclusion.

Perhaps a nanoKONTROL owner reading this thread could confirm this.

The nanokontrol definitely can be set to send each fader on a different midi channel.
In the Korg control editor there is a box above each fader strip that when selected lets you choose the midi channel as “scene”/global, or any of the 16 channels.
It should be pretty obvious in the editor.
I sometimes use the nanokontrol to control the octatrack (with the help of an iconnectmidi) and it works really well within its limitations.

hi everyone
I’ve been using the NanoKontrol (v1) along with the Octa for some time now, wich I really enjoy
I’ve recently added a couple of external synths, so I’m already thinking of upgrading my controller along the way… I do love the formfactor of the NanoKontrol, as it’s super small and lightweight - and it also sits confortably below the octa…
I thought of using another scene at least for MIDI track mutes, but if I go back to scene 1, all button leds are off again, so it makes it too confusing…

so anyways, I just spotted this controller, wich seems really interesting:

it has 4 buttons per track (vs. 2 of the nanoKontrol), also those 9 pads can have 3 different mappings… I don’t have much love for led faders, but oh well… if I can switch layers and go back to find them in their original positions, it could be worthwhile…
I wonder if they are truly class compliant though…
also, the top 8 knobs are encoders - that could be interesting too…
anoyone around here has this?? I’m extremely curious about it´s possible implementation
