Octatrack MKII - Unresponsive cluster of buttons (YES, NO, UP, LEFT) while LEDs light up on startup

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with my Octatrack MKII. A specific cluster of adjacent buttons - YES, NO, UP, and LEFT - are completely unresponsive.

Here are the key technical details:

  • LED Behavior: On startup, the LEDs under all of these affected buttons light up properly during the initial LED sequence animation. So power and basic LED control line are clearly active.
  • Test Mode: Running the FUNCTION TEST gives [OK] / [*] OK for all main components (DRAM, SRAM, DSP, ATA, CODEC, etc.). However, in Test Mode, pressing any of these 4 buttons produces ‘no reaction’ on the trig matrix LEDs.
  • Physical feel: The buttons physically click normally and don’t seem mechanically jammed.

Maybe a dedicated input/readout line on the UI board or ribbon cable connector might be failing.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue with this specific group of buttons? Was it resolved by re-seating/cleaning the internal UI ribbon cable, cleaning a master switch in the matrix, or replacing the button board entirely?

Thanks in advance for any insights or repair tips!

Have you raised a ticket with elektron support?

If your machine is no longer under warranty, have you opened it up reseated the UI board ribbon cable?

Have there been any liquids spilled on the machine?

Thanks for the feedback!

I’ve just submitted an official support ticket to Elektron with the full details and test mode results.

Absolutely zero liquids or spills - the unit has always been kept in a clean environment and transported in a hard case with a Decksaver.

I haven’t opened it up to reseat the UI board ribbon cable yet. Do you think reseating could help?

Its one of those things that may help if its loose. Wont make a difference if it isnt loose.

If your machine is under warranty, opening it will void that warranty.
