I just got back into Elektron gear a few weeks ago with an OT MKII and AR MKII to be the brains of my setup which includes a Novation Summit and soon, a Dreadbox Typhon.
A video on YouTube from Novation’s Calc shows him using the Digitakt to use the Peak as a drum machine, a’la Novation Bass Station 2 “Aphex Mode” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGWAX7iMJvM).
Now, is this simply impossible on the OT? The only information I can find is related to using MIDI CC32 to send patch change messages which does not seem to work. The only way I am able to change banks/patches of the Summit with the OT is manually, through the SRC sub-menu.
Any advice is appreciated as I’m trying to finish a track and this is the last bump before it’s smooth. I’m not really sure if there’s a solution though.
Man… I guess this gives me an excuse to get a Digitone/Keys. A bit unfortunate the “Octatrack” is no longer a brain but it was never designed to be, I suppose.
Well, you can also use some cheap midi translator to translate a custom CC message into a program change externally before it hits the other device. So on the OT you send, for example, CC79 with value 10 and the other device receives PC 10.
I have my reasons for not sampling the Summit patches I am utilizing in the track.
Still utilizing it as a brain but it’s not Pinky and the Brain level to me anymore at least relative to the immediacy it offers (I know the OT and immediacy do not go hand in hand but this is just a bit of sequencing and patch changing).
Regardless, it’s quite easy to use my Summit banks to setup multi-patches consecutively and switch right before since patch loading is instantaneous, I just have to transition well enough to let the sounds fade out naturally.
