Octatrack MKII: flat sound?

Hi everyone!

I was wondering, looking on youtube I see several octatrack users confess that its sound is kinda ‘flat’ and the effects are ‘meh’. Those vids and posts were about octa MKI though.

I wonder:

  1. why is the sound of the octatrack not great? where does it go wrong? Does this only count for the processed sounds?
  2. in other words if I use it as mixer (which is my intention) and route other synths through it, does it negatively impact the sound of the other synths too?
  3. Has this ‘flat sound’ improved for the MKII, or is it identical?
