Octatrack MK2 > Syntakt Midi Config Help

Hello folks,

I am trying to get my Octa to act as the midi sequencer for my Syntakt in Tracks Trig mode so I can play the Syntakt as a full kit. I was able to get the Octa to trig the Syntakt’s tracks by not assigning any channel to the midi tracks in the octa.

However, I can’t change the pitch and the Octa is sending out a default pitch. I tried a lot of things to rectify this and came to the conclusion that I could send CC from the midi track to the syntakt to set the pitch although preferably I’d like the Octa to just play the settings I have set on the Syntakt.

Now I am finding that the Octa is not sending CC data out, I checked this with a midi monitor. Everything else is being sent. Clock, Prog change, Transport, Notes. I have set the correct CC with Midi learn from the Syntakt, checked the manual to see that it is correct, and I have activated the CC using FUNC.

What is the step I am missing here? I have tried to interpret the manual, experiemented with all the midi settings, I have watched videos, asked Chat GPT but I just can’t get it right.

My ultimate goal is to make long loops on the octa, like 32 bars, maybe by chaining patterns together and then tweaking parameters in the Syntakt live without the settings going back to their last state each time a new pattern is triggered.

Please help, I will be greatly appreciative

I might be wrong but if you press proj, mid, control, audio cc out, make sure its on int+ext, do the same for note out.

I use my octatrack with my other elektron gear, the midi output is really good.
I have a feeling i had an issue when i set it it up, pressing stop twice then starting again got it working.
Good luck

Thanks for getting back to me. I have tried this, but it isn’t working. Maybe my machine is bugged? Or maybe there’s something else?

Still no joy with this. Tried updating firmware to 1.40B which apparently solves a midi map issue, tried a fresh project. Still no joy. The machine itself is not registering a trigger on the midi output indicator but other buttons do. Audio CC Out is definitely EXT, still nothing showing in midi monitor. Sent a support ticket since maybe it is a bug?

Welcome @Rossco
You should be able to trigger all ST tracks from OT with notes 0-11. The channel have to correspond to a Syntakt channel (1-12 by default).

Note 0 is C0 on ST, C-1 on OT.
:loopy:

This concerns audio tracks only (audio tracks send midi only if you press buttons, encorders, but not with the sequencer).

Setting AUDIO CC OUT to EXT is really particular, encoders don’t change parameters anymore. Pretty scary, but it can be usefull in specific cases. I don’t recommend this setting unless you know what you’re doing (midi loopback things).

Thanks for the replies.

I managed to get some joy assigning midi track 8 to channel 1 and I can control the cc of track 1 on Syntakt. However, now I cannot trigger the midi note for channel 1 of the syntakt anywhere in tracks trig mode.
