I am almost certain this is the same scammer or at least it’s eerily similar. If there was any way to trick them into revealing more information or contact the target bank immediately, that would be a nice setup… I contacted them, asking if they ship to Austria.
Yes totally agree on this
In my case I reported everything to ebay and they closed the seller account within a few hours.
But it was on eBay Kleinanzeigen Germany, not sure if that made the difference.
Another good option is to place a piece of paper with the eBay item number next to the gear and upload a photo to prove that the pics are not stolen.
OKAY! CRAZY! This same guy is on eBay active right now, I am in conversation with him, he’s trying to sell a Rytm and doing the same scheme, new name, new phone number. ANY IMMEDIATE SUGGESTIONS on how to get the police on his trail??
Call the police and ask!
how do you know it’s the same guy?
EXACTLY the same scheme. No PayPal, same bank, pretends to be a couple, identical sentences from the other conversation, also Elektron gear, tells me the same story on WhatsApp right this moment. Got his new number now, contacted the police, they tell me they can’t locate a number. Awesome.
If it’s the exact same bank info (name, bank and account number) that should be enough for the police to trace the scammer back. You‘ll need to file a report first though, who knows how long it‘ll take until something is happening. Police still hasn’t fully arrived in the digital age while scammers open up new accounts within a few minutes.
Can you PM me the ebay profile?
This is by that scammer. Had him on the phone, he insulted me and threatened me. So yeah. Forwarded everything to the police. BEWARE!
I would try to report ebay and paypal, let them take responableity on the 1st case too.
What I don’t understand is how the package can be damaged and returned to the sender every time? If I understood correctly this was the case for all three of you who got scammed by this person?
If that is the case I would suspect that he/she/they have an accomplice within DHL who handled the shipping for all three packages, maybe the scammer even is a DHL delivery guy? Since you got shipping labels and tracking numbers this must be the only legit part because you can’t fake a tracking number that is trackable through the DHL site/app.
He just threatened my life on WhatsApp before blocking me again
Don’t know how dhl works. But if there are drop off locations you could just drop off a busted package. If they target people in same towns might even be able to reuse tracking
Definitely take screenshots of that.
Nice that you empathise with banks and stand up for them, but you missed the part where I mentioned that I was a premier customer, paying £25 a month for all sorts of features (one of them fraud protection).
Secondly, theft is theft and somehow the thieves managed to breach the card’s security. What is more the bank eventually paid up, which tells you where they stood. You can be sure they wouldn’t have if they didn’t have to.
The purpose of a bank in essence is to keep anyone’s funds safe, breaches in security are the bank’s responsibility, not the customers. Further, fraud protection usually includes a bank freezing the account as a precaution, not the other way around. If that is not the case with your bank, I suggest you look for another one.
Also it wasn’t 100k but 10k.
And re credit cards you just made my point, they have contracts that make it possible to recall payments. Considering paypal takes 5% on purchases (usually passed on to then buying party), I’m ok with a 2-3% transaction fee.
My point was: banks definitely have the means to recall transfers and even freeze funds - they also share identity information of account holders with each other and the police, but don’t bother to do any of that unless we’re looking at serious crimes & corresponding investigations. So as someone buying on Ebay, we shouldn’t bank on our bank as a party that will stand with us in the case of conflict/fraud.
There are drop off stations but then the package would go back immediately if it was damaged from the start. Was the package processed any further to a different city before getting stuck @vvlv ?
PS: reusing a tracking number doesn’t work. If you already used a shipping label you won’t be able to drop the package off again.
This you can DEFINITELY bring to the police and tell them that you fear for your security as they have your address etc. they will not dismiss it as easily as an Ebay Kleinanzeigen scam. So your chances of them actually doing some work on the case just went up.
EDIT: Also in my case back then one cop told me that there are proper “scamming farms” set up - he suggested they operate out of Spain & Turkey and frequently buy people in the countries where they scam - often with premises that render the individuals mostly unaware of the fact that they are assisting a scam.
EDIT 2: The DHL thing is interesting. As you may know, DHL operates a network of sub-contractors (for pickups & delivery) that are fairly poorly managed by DHL, so there is definitely the possibility that the scammers may be working with someone within one of these DHL-licensees / subcontractors in the town they claim to send from. My suggestion is that you hit up DHL Customer Service, they may be able to identify the person that issued that number (they DEFINITELY can actually).
There’s probaply detailed information on the net how to best handle such a situation.
I actually know a guy who got his money back (I thought he wouldn’t have a chance…)!
He got a laywer and just went through with it.
Not all hope lost.
Probaply best not to post too many details about the process on a public forum, though.
I’d be suprised if good organized scammers would not use this opportunity…
I already thought if he has some shit going on within DHL, but I kind of don’t want to believe in that…
Personally I didn’t ask for a picture of the tracking label. I just trusted him with the DHL tracking link provided. The DHL tracking info page showed the sender as the fake ID he used to sell the synth to me.
But it was the same thing? Damaged package that got returned to the sender?
And if a „Packstation“ (drop off station) got used then this person is tracable 100% because you have to confirm you details with a code that you get send by mail and which takes a few days. I would definitely try to involve DHL in this but it‘ll be better if the police does that.
Yes, it was the same scheme: misrouted - misrouted - damaged - repackaged - …and now it says that the package is on the way to the recipient (me).
Will it get lost again or will I get receive an empty box with another insult inside?
What if he used fake details of the person who was supposedly selling on ebay? That would work with a Packstation, wouldn’t it?
