OT MK II black product page on thomann.de says “The product Elektron Octatrack MKII Black is regretfully no longer available.”
After the experience with DT being discontinued, it’s probably save to say OT MK II is no more. It’s different from all the times when it wasn’t available for a bit.
I don’t know if we need another speculation thread, so mods feel free to close this thread or merge it with Tonverk/what’s next for Elektron. I think it warrants it’s own topic.
What do you think is next? OT MK III? Tonverk? Both? Something completely different? What do current OT owners or those wo wanted to buy one think?
Personally, I don’t think they will release an updated Octatrack. There are still plenty of them out in the wild for those who are looking for the OT experience. I have a feeling that Elektron will release another new machine instead that’s less quirky and complex but still very powerful. But no performance sampler or crossfader anymore.
So if you really want to buy one, here you can still get it for a reasonable price, in the other stores where there are still some (I haven’t checked) the prices have risen for a few days.
Well, I’d usually say it’s hard to guess anything from these standard texts on shop fronts. But we have the track record of DT saying no longer available on Thomann and a rep confirming it’s out of production shortly before DT being discontinued and DT II being announced. So with this exact thing happening again, I’m willing to bet that it’s the same with OT now.
Seen some crazy 2nd hand prices for shiny MKIIs recently. Should be easy to score one for 750-850€ – if you can cope with the sound quality, of course.
