Octatrack MIDI TO USB Cable advice needed! Had a nightmare!

REPLACEMENT USB TO MIDI CABLE NEEDED!!! HELP PLEASE*

Use a USB midi cable by Terrasoniq to connect Octatrack to Shuttle Control a midi to cv Eurorack module. But it’s broken and I can’t replace it as it’s discontinued!

From experience, if you are using an older hardware sequencer (like an Octatrack smile) then buy a terrasoniq midi one cable. It’s the only one I know that can handle fast transfer of midi data on multiple midi channels. The Optocouplets in this cable are better than any other. However, I’ve learned from experience that this cable will blow if you plug in a module backwards or if you get any kind of kick back. Give Shuttle Control it’s own power source and you will never go wrong.

However I can’t find a Terrasoniq midi to usb cable available!! Mine just broke and i have a gig this weekend.

Is anyone using an alternative with Octatrack>USB to Midi> Shuttle Control?

Such as:

http://www.richtonemusic.co.uk/products/alesis_usb-midi_cable_audiolin k_series_midi-to-usb_cable.asp

or

https://www.maplin.co.uk/p/usb-to-midi-adapter-cable-a03fk

Any good???

Any help would be really appreciated as I really need to organise a replacement asap :slight_smile:

I use one of these, works great.

Thanks for your reply!!!

Do you send midi data down multiple channels via this cable from Octatrack to Shuttle Control? If so it’s perfect!

Terrasoniq seem to have a monopoly on that, so if iconnectivity have made a competing product it would make me very happy! :slight_smile:

@JuanSOLO

I push a whole lot of MIDI in and out of my OT with an iConnectivity mio10 box, typically all MIDI track’s LFOs, clock etc on top of the usual note data and audio/MIDI track control from various controller hardware/PC/iPad. From testing, the OT will crap out before the DIN ports on the mio misbehave. They do a simple USB to DIN device as shown above, no idea if it handles it as well as the 10 though.

Ok and specifically do you use it to connect Octatrack to Shuttle Control Eurorack module?

Many thanks for your reply @hellcore :slight_smile:

No, but I do use the Expert Sleepers FH-1 MIDI USB device at the other end connected to my mio10. MIDI is MIDI.

Ok great thanks for the info @hellcore

Reckon I’d have any problems with the USB to Midi cables i linked (Maplin or Alesis) as these are the only two that I can go into the store today and pick up - as don’t have enough time to wait for iconnectivity to be delivered

@hellcore @JuanSOLO

No idea about the Alesis, but I wouldn’t touch much from Maplin if I could help it, they tend to stock overpriced junk.

So true about Maplin! Wish it wasn’t one of my few options right now!

Just resurrecting this. I have just purchased a MK2 and intend to use this with the Expert Sleepers FH2. Is anyone a) using this in this way and b) can anyone tell me which MIDI to USB cable they are using currently that seems to be working just fine? I am reading about things like the MIO being sluggish?!

Thanks!

Hi, hope this thread still gets attention. I upgraded from Digitakt to Octatrack and I also have the Shuttle Control. Any suggestions cable-wise?
