I’m having a really odd issue here and not sure what’s going on. I set up a MIDI track to trigger my Din Sync RE-303 and everything was working fine. I was programming knobs on a Faderfox MX12 that I have connected to the Octatrack. The Faderfox comes pre-configured with different setups for Ableton, Octatrack, AnalogFOUR, etc and when I turned one of the knobs on the Faderfox that I hadn’t configured yet the Octatrack stopped sending MIDI to my RE-303. I figured I changed some output parameter or something when I turned that knob, so I went through all of the settings looking for the usual suspects. After doing some troubleshooting, testing different MIDI cables etc, I’m having this weird issue where I can trigger the RE-303 when I’m in Chromatic mode on the Octatrack, but once I record the notes, the Octatrack is not sending the MIDI notes out. Does anyone know what would cause this??? Here’s a link to a short video showing the problem.
I’m not sure what you mean by that. I’ve never recorded MIDI notes in live record mode and not had them play back once the notes are recorded. So, what are you saying the solution is? Is it a setting that may have gotten changed from the Faderfox or what? I don’t see what scale correction has to do with my problem…
Maybe (or probably) nothing, I read the title and jumped in on mobile. Post was too long to check, so my bad there. It’s an irelevant answer to the interpreted topic title which wasn’t your question … oops! It wasn’t even the question i read, quite a common issue wherein live input differs from playback basedb on scale correction
Can only think the arp is putting the notes out of range for your synth with TRANS or too short For your synth with NLEN - the transpose takes effect even with arp off
The arp isn’t on. Note lengths are set to 1/4. Transpose is set to 3. Everything in range… It’s weird because it was working before I turned a knob on the Faderfox and it sent some kind of message to the Octatrack and it bugged out. That being said, if you watched the video I posted, it works just fine when I press the keys in Chromatic mode. It’s just not playing back the notes after I record them in live record mode. It doesn’t make any sense… It’s driving me crazy…
Like I said, trans works with arp off. It won’t affect the notes being played on chromatic trigs but WILL affect the notes when played back off the sequencer…
What’s with that, out of interest? You’ll definitely get at least different notes on playback than record doing that.
Watched your video lots of times & Even copied everything I see down to those zeros on your midi track setup page. Still no clue except trans - like I could make the same video with a transpose setting! but if it’s only +/- 3 you’d have to be playing notes already very close to the synths limits… or midi limits
Also fresh project and a midi monitor would help eliminate a lot
Note length is set to to 1/4, which is longer than the gap between your trigs, so notes overlap, try a shorter note length. I’ve had this before on a synth, only the first note sounded and then complete silence. I also got this behaviour in VCV Rack.
Just a guess…if you can’t get it right, try with a new project.
Could also be the note range of your 303 like @Clancy said. Try setting everything on the arp to default settings.
Lfos are doing nothing (lfos could shift notes out of range)?
Yes I thought that too but like you said - first nite would sound. Want to check the note numbers now just in case it’s that first note that’s pushed out of range and then the overlaps are muting the rest. But it’s bedtime haha
So, I meant trans set to 3 in the Chromatic settings. If you hold Function and press left or right arrows it transposes an octave in either direction for the keys when you’re playing in Chromatic mode. The trans in arp menu is set to 0. It’s weird dude. I have 2 octatracks and just went through every setting one by one on each unit and they are the same. Even in the global settings and midi channel settings in the global menu. I did the exact same procedure for recording live MIDI input on the other unit and it records the notes in and immediately plays them back out when it loops. I’ve had these machines for like 10 years and used them extensively. I’ve never seen this happen before…
It’s weird man. It was working before just fine. I’m not using the arp so overlapping notes were just gliding on the 303. It was when I turned a knob on the Faderfox that it stopped working and started having this problem. I did same procedure for recording notes in on my other octatrack and it’s working perfectly.
Do you remember which knob it was? Can you check what that knob sends?
It’s just a behaviour I’ve noticed with certain synths and VCV Rack (probaply due to handling of note off messages with overlapping notes), but @Clancy is right, in this case the first note would be triggered.
It was one of these knobs. I figured out that one changes input source to A, B or A+B. That’s one of the first things I checked when it stopped working. Not sure what the other one does… I mean the audio comes in. It’s just not sending the notes out to the RE-303…
I just don’t understand how it works when I play the keys in Chromatic mode, but won’t send the notes out once they’re recorded into the step sequencer. It makes no sense…
