Octatrack>Machinedrum>RS7000 questions

Hi,

My current setup is Octatrack as master, MIDI out to MD MK1 UW, MIDI THRU to RS7000.

I have two issues:

I’d firstly like to change patterns on the MD when I change patterns on the OT.

As I understand it, prog changes to change patterns have to occur on MIDI channel 1?

If this is the case, then the program change I’m sending is also changing the sound/voice I have on channel 1 of the RS7000, which I don’t want.

This doesn’t make sense, as my RS7000 has a MIDI filter page where I have set it to not receive program changes. Even if I de-select sending prog changes in the OT, this still occurs.

Any ideas?

Cheers!

No.

The OT can cause the MD to change patterns in at least two ways:

[ol]
[li]Send Program Change (PC) messages to the MD. The OT can send PC messages either automatically on a MIDI channel determined in the PROJECT > MIDI > SYNC menu, or in the MIDI sequencer by setting a PC number in the NOTE SETUP page and activating a pattern linked to a new OT Part. For this to work, the MD must have PRG CHANGE IN setting activated in its CONTROL > PRG CHANGE menu in the current Global slot and the appropriate MIDI channel set in the same menu.[/li]
[li]Send a MIDI note to the MD. Set up a Map in the CONTROL > MAP EDITOR menu of the current Global slot on the MD such that the appropriate note triggers the appropriate MD pattern. The MIDI channel is set up in the MIDI sequencer in the OT and in the CONTROL > BASE CHANNEL menu in the current Global slot on the MD.[/li]
[/ol]

Hi Peter,

I can’t believe I didn’t even try the first method you suggested! Worked first time. Been a long time since I had an MD, just picked up a 2nd hand one today.

I was trying the second method and running into all kinds of unwanted note triggering issues.

Thanks loads for simplifying!

Cheers
