Octatrack instead of DAW

Anyone here made an entire number on Octatrack (all in the box) , and had it mastered and cut to CD,Vinyl
Very curious to find out if any commerical releases have been done all in the box with no DAW.
My hunch is the internal summing on the Octatrack is really good and will put its own sound on your tune and likely sound worse if you mulitracked to a DAW !

I haven’t finished a track yet (i own the OT just for around two weeks), but this is why i bought the OT. My plan is to create my tracks completely with the OT. So far, my experience are very good and i guess it is possible for me to use the OT as a DAW replacement. I use SunVox and VCV Rack to create single cycle waveforms and loops, Audacity to record the output of the OT and to “master the volume” with LUFS Meter. I even don’t have much external gear, at the moment just a Mininova, a MS 70 CDR and some Pocket Operators, but i like the limitation. I was so tired to work with a DAW / Computer, i was more fiddling around with it and all the VSTs and stuff then actually creating music.

At some point you will need to record your music to a digital format. A DAW is just another tool. If your soundcard is a good signal, there will be no coloring.

Have a pair of OT2 and a Roland MX-1 mixer and also a Teac V series tape machine
but yes need to get the master into the computer for editing ----which i would use isotope RX

True, but the record will be the finished product in terms of elements and structure and “just” need to be polished. Okay, let’s say the OT will replace the DAW for 90% in my case.

Everyone has their own way of doing things. I have been recording what i do into live, just stereo outs from the OT, live into Ableton. Once in Ableton, I just use a multiband compressor to tighten things up a bit and remove some unwanted frequencies. I just use Ableton as a tool to be able to send tracks to friends, who may end up listening on their phones, or laptops… Just so people can listen to it.
