Octatrack input sounds bad?

Hi. Hard to record on my phone- but I tried.
Whenever I play a chord on my synth, the octatrack distorts it. This only happens with larger chords, and is especially obvious on higher octaves.

The signal display does show as hot. Any ideas?

Using a thru machine with max volume and max amp volume. But no gain in the mixer.

Try setting amp volume to zero and adding the gain in the mixer, you are adding gain after the input with amp vol, which accounts for why it does not show as being hot on the LEDs.
