Octatrack Faulty

Hi,

My Mk2 OT is 1.5 years old. I orignally thought it was a short between the right arrow and rec trig. The bpm also jumps when this happening. Now other buttons trigger sample menus etc. Has anyone seen this before?. Would flashing it be helpful? It’s a little dusty on the face plate, i have removed any dust from pcb.

Is this worth tracing the faulty buttons? It’s under warranty, I would rather avoid the long return time.

Your unit is still in the warranty period. Have you raised a ticket with elektron support?

Could just be as simple as reseating cable headers. But that may void your warranty.

It surely is more than a little.

Is it related, I don’t know?

Probably not, ive taken mine apart quite a few times for repairs and maintenance.
All octatrack knobs and buttons are well sealed components. Pretty dust proof in my opinion. Liquid proof? probably not.

Personally I would try reseating the ribbon cables. But the OP may not want to risk voiding the warranty.

Talk to elektron is best bet.

Talk to elektron is best bet, seconded. If you have a can of compressed air though, you could remove the faceplate and really blow out the more troublesome buttons with that straw thing that they come with, then hit the rest of the pcb while you’re at it. Also, I agree, reseating the ribbon cables is a good idea.

I don’t think those things would impact your warranty, but since I don’t know, I’m also thinking elektron support and a little patience will get the issue resolved free of charge and liability.

I honestly thought it would be worse but there was hardly any dust ingress.

I’ve created a ticket, agreed.

Update:

It’s all functioning fine now. I didn’t do anything to it, so I’m quite confused.

I think the fact that you documented it with video is enough to get it serviced. If you send that file to them, they’ll at least have some more specific advice based on what they’re seeing I think. They’ll probably tell you to send it in, but even if that’s the case, at least you’re getting it done within the warranty period.

I’d check if the power plug really delivers 6V DC with 3A (sorry that was MK1). For the MKII it should be 12 V DC 2A.
