Octatrack continuous sampling playback issue

Hi there !

I’m currently experimenting a lot with the live sampling/playback possibilities of the OT, but I think I’m facing some weird issues… I don’t know if it has to do with memory settings or my setup but here it is :
My octatrack is slaved to my soundcard in order to sample in sync some audio from ableton. So, vsts are playing in ableton via midi tracks, and the audio is sent exclusively to the OT inputs. There, several tracks are setup as flexmachines with a recorder trig on step one and a playback trig on step one (or more). Then, the audio output is sent back to ableton.
The problem is that when I place a playback trig on step one, the playback is not consistent… Sometimes it’s ok but sometimes it doesn’t play the recording, or only a glimpse of it.
To have consistent playback I found a workaround consisting in placing the recorder trig or the first playback trig on a different step than the first one. But then things are not really in sync (there’s an offset) and I know it’s not the proper way to do it…
To further narrow the answers, I know that in this case I should avoid pitching up the first playback step (to avoid getting ahead of the recording). Maybe my memory setup is not right ? I’m also wondering if maybe the loose midi sync between the OT and ableton might have something to do with it…

What do you think ?
Are my explanation clear enough ?

Thanks !

Easy way to test if it it a sync problem: put a kick pattern in Ableton and a kick pattern in OT, sync OT to Ableton, start and see if they stay in sync, stop and restart a few times, leave running and see if it stays in sync or not. If it works as expected then it isn’t a sync issue, if it doesn’t stay synced properly then it is most likely the cause.

Maybe Ableton sends some unwanted midi messages to OT.

Have you disabled time stretch on the playback flex machine? I guess otherwise only the slightest speed ups of the synced clock would otherwise get the playback “head” in front of the recording position (leading to audio drop outs).
