Octatrack + Chroma Caps

Was wondering how DJ Tech Tools Chroma Caps fit on the Octatrack (both knobs and crossfader) Anyone here have both that can share?

Yes. They work… kinda.

I noticed I kept grabbing the Level rotary when I wanted A and vice versa. So I grabbed some Chroma Caps in colors to tell the knobs apart.

The caps are great because they have a great rubbery feel and are easy to use… the downside is, the encoder caps are much wider than then the stock Octatrack encoders… so if you replace ALL the encoders, you can easily get your fingers bound up between two encoders… also you may accidentally turn an encoder that you don’t want to turn.

I like the stock encoders, I just really needed Level to stand out from the field of grey encoders… so will stick with them… I tried using every other encoder with a Chroma Cap, but they have such a nicer feel, that it made the grey ones slippery and I had to adjust my grip… so keeping all the stock knobs for A through F will have to do.

The crossfader works nice though… I like that the level Chroma Caps are much larger… which may or may not be to everyone’s taste.

Here is what it looked like before I replaced the A, E & C back to the stock grey…

Oh these look good! I have the same problem with the level knob, I’ll have to get some for both my OT and Blofeld (which has stupid slippery caps).

Do the knobs fit nicely to the surface of the OT? As in, fit all the way down the shaft of the encoders?

Tried ordering some of those Chroma caps, but apparently I’m a fraud

And looking at their explanation for this it looks like I’d need to prove that I’m a DJ (they talk about filling DJ site profiles etc.) and not just some guy who wants better knobs for his gear…

Yes, they fit perfectly all the way down and encoders are still pushable. At least with the slim ones, haven’t tried the fat encoders.

Hey, i´d like to get a couple for my A4.
As there are 5 knob options from DJ TechTools, can anyone please confirm if the knobs on the pictures are the ones that are named “encoder”.

I was looking for cap options, since my OT’s are also yellowed out from use… seems like Chroma Caps is the best / only option around…?

I guess the best option is the second row right?

Hi, Josh from DJTT here. I’d recommend thin encoders for parameter banks and either a regular super knob or a fatty for your master volume. Hope this helps!

I have Chroma Caps on my Rytm and A4 they fit but the sizing of the encoder depth is not uniform. If they are slightly off (too deep) you won’t be able to push the parameter knobs. There is one encoder on my Rytm and two on my A4 like this.
