Wow, this seems to be more complex then I thought. I am quite new to the Elektron cosmos - but loving it so far. I really enjoy the A4 and AR. I use Overbrige to connect them to Ableton. Works like a charm - and without latency. Now I also got an Octatrack to my studio. Since it is missing (sadly enough) Overbride, my idea is, to hook it up to the A4 or AR as a midi slave and feed the main audio out into my interface. With some tweaking, this should be all in sync.
So my guess is, to send midi out on the auto channel to the OT and it should work. But it does not.
And the manuals do not cover this use case. And I found a lot of topics here about this situation - but no solution. I guess, this is a pretty common use case. ’
I really would appreciate some guidance to the right direction. Thank you!!
I’m not sure if the AR can send midi while in Overbridge mode, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t. Double check the midi settings to make sure the AR is sending midi clock and the OT is set up to receive it.
Failing that, I would test putting the AR in USB Audio/MIDI setting to see if OB mode is stopping MIDI transmission somehow.
It is a bit more complicated because of the Octatrack not having overbridge and USB midi.
If you are sending midi clock from the AR/AF I recommend you feed the Octatrack audio into the AR or AF audio in to have accurate sync…
Then if you want to be able to send midi from your daw to the Octatrack you need a midi interface most sound cards have midi or get a USB to midi one…
Then you will have to merge the midi interface with the AR or AF midi into the Octatrack with a midi merge box
Well that’s how I do it to send midi notes/overbridge clock sync & pc to the Octatrack,
I’m certainly open to easier ways if anyone knows.
Thank you for pointing me into the right direction. It seem, that once Overbridge mode is enabled, Midi Out is no longer working as expected. Or Midi Out is general not working as expected.
I now send midi from Ableton through my trusty old Midisport Interface - and it works. Even without noticeable sync issues (audio in goes trough my audio Interface, which is an ES-9 in my rack).
Wouldn´t it be great if Elektron could offer some kind of properitary connection kit between all their devices? A kit with an integrated software, that displays which devices are chained and offers all sorts of ways to let them interact? During my “research” I found so main threads with issues, problems, quick fixes and workarounds for these problems…
…just was about to say that…sync the ot indepently from the other ones via ordinary clock send from ur daw…there u go…if u got another pair of inputs left on ur interface, it might soon become also pretty handy to set ot in studio mode and adress to record also the cue outputs of ur ot…
then lack of ob capabilty is almost not really missing anymore…
