Hi there, has anyone else come across this. When I use the Octatrack as the master MIDI clock, when I change any scene, it slows down the clock of the slave for a moment! Doesnt happen when Octatrack is slave but this is not always ideal. Any workarounds?
Can you hear it? Or are you looking at the numbers on a screen?
I use OT as master clock in my set up, driving plenty of other gear, no timing problems at all ever, changing scenes or otherwise.
hi @astro_mat and welcome onboard
how’s the OT connected to the other device/s? anything in between?
is the OT sending any MIDI CC values to the connected devices?
Yup, can hear and see it.
Nothing inbetween. No CC being sent
I thought this may have been a common problem. I guess not! I think I remember EZBOT saying once not to use Octatrack as master for some reason but then in other videos he does!!!
Can you replicate the same thing with a fresh project?
Can you replicate the same thing with only metronomes playing, and clear all scenes?
Yes. Just tried with a fresh project and just metronome. Still happens. Very weird!
At the moment, using with a Polyend Play. I dont have another device really to try with but happened with a model cycles that I had.
When you say change any scene to you mean selecting a scene? Or moving the fader?
In OT settings, do you have Direct Control OFF?
Happens when I move a fader. Just kind of confuses the slave clock. Faster i do it, the worse it is. Then puts it out of sync. What is Direct Control?
THATS IT!!! Just went into MIDI>Control and turned it all off or set to int. Problem gone!!! Great stuff. Thanks, thats been buging me for AGES!!!
You’re welcome.
Note: its not a problem. Its design. OT can directly control parameters of other gear, however its a pain in the neck to set up, so I always have it turned off.
Never used it, never knew about it. I will from now on. Thanks again.
Have you tried turning DIRECT CONTROL off?
Just kidding. This is one of those things that’s been off on mine for ages and I didn’t even remember it existed so it’s good to get a recap.
I knew it would be something daft I was missing!
i agree, i had similar situations with the OT. had this when send cc61 message, ot slows down -10bpm for 1-2 seconds. therefore i stopped using OT as master.
Give it another go turning off all the CV. Worked for me. Back as the master now
Tooting my own horn here.
midi CC61 is track data dump request on OT,
if you force the machine to do that repeatedly it will indeed follow your command and prefer the request and only after sending it out it will follow its sequencer again, hence the slow down.
a track data dump request results usually in at least 6x5 = 30 cc-value-pairs long messages. So is 90byte long… means around 90bytes are punched in between the steady 0xF8 clock stream.
