I have an issue with my octatrack and machinedrum. I connect the midi out of the octa to control the md and specifically to trigger patterns via the map editor. My whole plan is to trigger patterns with the arpeggiatot with shuffle or random and create wild and unexpected pattern changes. But for some reason every time I put on the arpeggiator my midi track stops ‘playing’ and stops sending note info to my machinedrum. I mention playing because the play button under the track is Always on stop after that. If I go to a different track and just plock in notes on the grid it works. Until I use the arpeggiator and the track basically becomes unusable. It seems buggy as hell or I’m missing something.

Yes I have checked my midi channels on my devices. I have gone through the manual and midi settings on both machines. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t missed the glaring obvious.
Turned off audio cc in
CC direct is on
No control is activated on the other pages just the arp page and playback page on every midi ch I tried/used
I am on an old OS with the octatrack. I’m afraid for my projects for some reason so I’m postponing updating. Although conditional trigs would be an awesome addition to my plan.
Something plugged in OT midi In?
If you send back to OT the notes in RED in can be problematic…
You’d rather filter notes receive, change midi routing. More details needed.
Nothing plugged into the midi in. It seems like an issue with the arp itself. It stops the track from ‘playing’ and sending data it seems. Ill check tonight with a new project and see what happens there. Ah yes the midi thru is connected to the mono. Base channel on md is set to 1-4. Transport and clock is sending to the md from octa. Md is receiving. Miditrack 1 to 3 are unusable now. With 4 Im still able to send midi notes and pattern changes happen. But I dont dare touch the arp. Also channel is set to 1 no values in bank or program change. Ill add more details tonight when im in front of my ot.
I turned it off to try out the patternchanges. But the plan is to use the arranger eventually. The song mode is off on the md. It works with plocking notes. It ‘breaks’ when I turn on the arp.
Ill check tonight. But Im pretty sure that it is the same issue. Ill hook some other devices and try out other projects to see if it is an issue with the project itself. Man this thing can be fickle. Complexity comes with a cost.
I have to admit that OT MIDI had me scratching my head more than once…
Assigning notes to Play/Stop alone has been a pain for a long time until I found a way to avoid such problems.
There are ways to monitor MIDI traffic, you might want to put a snitch in the loop to understand what’s going on.
Well if I take a new track and just put in midi notes it works just fine. But from the moment I put on the arp and play it stops playing and it stops sending data permanently. Ill try the software and do some experimenting. And get back here if I know more. Thanks for trying to help to all who replied.
Isn’t there a note length setting under arp? Think it overrides length on playback page when you switch arp on. (Sorry not with OT now) Maybe that is set too short for receiving device to register…
Yeah it overrides. It sends notes on anyway, notes off (note on with vel=0) just after with minimum time values but it’s interesting to check that too.
1.25 is supposed to be the best 1.25x (but no pre-slice).
It is also possible that with your arp settings notes go out of the MD MAP range
If you don’t find, please tell us what are all your Midi Notes and Arp page settings, and what is your MD MAP.
