Octatrack advice?

I currently have the DN2 and DT2 as my main boxes. I also use iPad occasionally and the Roland S1 (I mainly sample the iPad and S1 into the DT.
I like to write on all my devices in different combinations, however, I’m working on a live set and a big requirement that I want is to take only one device and maybe a hardware multi FX unit

Can you use the Octatrack is the following way?
Have my other boxes/devices linked into the OT at home and record separate stems to the OT. That way I could just take the OT to a venue with all of the parts on the one box. I’m guessing it would then be possible to apply OT FX to different stems plus route individual tracks to an external multi FX pedal back into the OT?

It seems like there’s many different ways to use the OT so I understand that it’s fairly vague request.

Yep those things are perfectly possible. You’ll probably want to spend some time fully coming to grips with it tho before you use it in a live environment as it has some quirks and curveballs that you may not wish to encounter in front of an audience. The learning curve isn’t nearly as bad as people tend to claim it is, but it’s definitely something to keep in mind

Just to be clear, you can’t record full stems on the OT, there are workarounds to get as much as 8mn something (@sezare56 will be more accurate than me on that) but the process and limitations are tedious.

`what you can do though is to record all your devices into your DAW then transfer the stems and feed the OT with it. Keep in mind the FX on the OT are pretty outdated and the mixing if there is one should happen within the DAW because the OT has very limited options for that and it would take you FX slots away.

Once you accept these limitations, the OT is a fabulous sampler to drive your gig. I considered this but still wanna have some direct live controls on the sound of the synth. DN2 and DT2 can also easily max out the number of audio tracks available on the OT so summing stems adds to more job to do and less control.
