Octatrack AB/CD Input - noise issues

Dear all,

Recently, I discovered a very noticeable added high frequency noise on my octatrack…

I was designing a sub bass from my modular case and trying to run them through Octatrack AB input, and discover that there is this added high frequency noise even when my filter is all the way down low.

I have checked that this noise does not exist if I run directly into my soundcard from my modular, so I rule out that the noise comes from my synth. Similarly, if I run my ARP2600M into the AB/CD input, the noise appears again.

Has this issue happen to any of you?

OT doesnt have a cue input. It has cue output.

OT mk1 or Mk2?
Balanced or unbalanced cables?
Is the USB cable plugged in to your OT?

-48db is fairly quiet. Have you tried a noise gate? OT has one built in.

Octatrack noise floor is not bad, but with bad gainstaging and fx (particulatly filter saturation, distortion and the compressor) it’s possible to raise it quite a bit.
I’d say if the noise isn’t audible in the recording, meaning it is masked entitely by the actual signal I wouldn’t worry about it.
Analog Rytm with its 12 tracks with analog circuitry can be problematic, noise can add up quickly and you have audible hissing when it’s not playing, but OT should be quiet unless you’re boosting the noise floor too much. The compressor has massive gain so it’s easy to raise the noise floor with compression.

Can you do a neutral gain stage noise floor test?
Track level at default (I think it’s 108 for both mk1 and mk2), main and cue out to zero in the mixer, thru machine AB/CD level to zero, amp level has to be at +63 I think (or was it +49 for unity gain?), no fx.

Sorry I simply meant the input is adding this noise layer on the higher frequency.

There is no noise floor I notice when not sending in audio.

I have attenuated the modular audio signal on the mixer page before going and have confirmed that it is not clipping the input. and then maximize the AB level. no fx were in the chain.

I was using unbalanced audio cable.
