Octasmacked!

Looking on ebay and found this - ebay item number 253405038513

Description from the listing:

“Here we have the fantastic Elektron Octatrack, an 8 track Audio/Midi sampler/sequencer.
This unit bears some cosmetic issues (due to frustration), has a little more than the usual wear and tear, (spent 2 weeks in a backyard).
There are issues with the screen, which doesn’t work as well as it used to, some rusting and oxidisation of the screws, and a solidified crossfader.
Used exclusively in a smoke-filled dusty studio, unfortunately comes without PSU, or CF Card, and the manual has fire damage (I set it on fire, also due to frustration).
Has seen some studio use, though mainly as a doorstop, no noise issues, in fact it runs completely silent except for crackling on the headphone output, that’s probably an easy fix.
Unbelievably it powers up, sold as seen, no returns, will be terribly packed for shipping.
Unique version of this modern classic!
Any questions please don’t ask.“

Looks like a fixer upper!

Wonder if the parts are available and wonder if mkII top board and face plate would fit?

Beautiful

This is amazing. Thank you for posting this.

Elektron/aunts.com should create an awareness campaign for OTSD and refer them to this board.

Mainly cause it breaks my heart to see an OT in that state.

TBH, if it had stayed under £75 or so it might be worth rolling the dice, but £100+ seems like too much considering that the most expensive individual parts to replace are the probably the fader, encoders, switches and display, and the rust on those screws makes me suspect that it got rained on and probably sat with water inside of it for at least a day or two - long enough that it probably caused some oxdization damage to the boards. You’d have to go in to it assuming that you were paying for only the enclosure, knob caps, fader cap and buttons (just the caps, not the tact switches). You’d probably be able to salvage more than that but not necessarily.

Someone should find out which aspect drove the person to commit such an act. My money is on not saving loops on power down.

sleep days on the backyard maybe rainy weather and a family of snails inside obstructing the ccrossfader.

This is what my octatrack would look like if my impulse control was bad.

But think of the extra glitchy glitchiness one could produce as it struggles to create sounds!

This is why I am scared to buy octatrack, if it can drive people to this level of frustration!!
