OctaKontrol alternative mixers

Any found any good alternatives for MIDI mixing the Octatrack’s 8 channels?

I’m finding that the way I’m wanting to work does demand a mixer.

In fact, ideally I’d have a way to change send amount into effects for delays and similar.

I have been using an Arturia Keylab 25 with the Octatrack and it provides a lot of control with two banks of faders and knobs, 25 keys, etc. I just power it with a USB adaptor and use the midi out.
Prior to that I used a Korg nanokontrol 1 with an iconnectmidi acting as host; if you don’t require a keyboard and have a host controller (kenton or iconnect), the nanokontrol is pretty fully featured and dirt cheap.

Thanks. Will investigate.

I like the look of the OctaKontrol, but because they’s a small company, last I heard, they’re not making another batch 'til June.

Something a bit more off-the-shelf might be more useful.

I use two solutions depending on how much space i have / how i feel at the time.

Firstly, the Behringer BCF2000 is a great option. Built in midi, very customisable using the manual to put specific controls on the unit

This is great when i have some space in my bag / desktop. Just remember to turn off the motors on the faders. You can setup multiple profiles so that, in theory, you could put the effects on here too.

Other option which ive been playing with is Lemur on the iPad then routed out via an iConnectivity iConnectMidi2+. This lets you setup complex control surfaces for the unit. Ive got a nice simple one sorted for controlling the volumes, and been playing with the physics for delay length etc. The iConnect will also allow you to filter midi between its two sets of ports so you can control another device from your OT while still using the midi ports for the iPad control.

Final last thought - Faderfox mk2 series has a midi output and battery power (although youd have to use midi learn for the control as the CCs are fixed on the FF).

Yeah - I was thinking iPad Lemur as one option.

I actually own the original hardware Lemur, but I’d have to use a laptop to link the Ethernet to a MIDI port.

I’d still prefer proper faders though.

No, you just need a 15 euros USB - MIDI cable, at least if I remember correctly.

Nope, the original Lemur ONLY has an Ethernet interface.

No USB.

I use the FaderFox PC 4 with 24 Pots. it’s small and merges the controls with the usb input from the ipad. by switching the scenes you have a lot of possibilities…

Bitstream 3X does a good job if you can find one second hand

I was talking about iPad Lemur, didn’t read properly

this looks good:

I mailed them, and very soon they will release more 4th gen. stuff, also with faders!

As much as I love my FaderMaster, sometimes I’d like some buttons as well…
Enter the MCS3000X, back when midi still had balls.

The Faderfox PC4 looks handy. I’m quite satisfied with the MPD32, 3 banks of 8 faders and 8 knobs. Faders per default set to highpass (bank 1), lowpass, fx send. Sometimes I also plug iPad Lemur in between as a Midi processor to get more mileage out of a Midi controller but that’s a different story.

@AdamJay: that’s an impressive heavy controller, no laptop plastic toy!
