OctaChainer 2

I’ve rewritten OctaChainer, a free Win/Mac tool for creating sample chains for the Octatrack and other samplers. The important changes are “under the hood”, with a much better codebase that is easier to maintain. In addition to bugfixes and improved error handling, I’ve added some new features:

  • Import of existing Octatrack chains
  • Loading/saving wav files with embedded cue markers
  • Improved UI with waveform display
  • Possibility to trim start/end of slices
  • Splitting/merging of slices
  • Command line support for batch operations
  • VST3 plugin for Cubase integration

If this tool doesn’t have quite the features you want, you might want to check out brian3kb’s excellent alternative: DigiChain

If you find the CLI features lacking, dijksterhuis have made a powerful command line utility with chaining support: ot-tools

It was long hours during my summer holidays. Kind of fun to “go all in” and fully focus on some geeky project once in a while. As always with these things it ends up being more work than anticipated, so glad it is done!

I’ve always felt a bit embarrased for the shabby state of v1. I made it “quick and dirty” just because I needed it myself right there and then. I didn’t realise it would be used that much. So even though most OT owners probably have mostly made the chains they want at this point, I just like the thought that the source code and the application itself is now made “properly”.

You should put a tip jar on your site so fans of the software can give you $/€/£.

This works like a charm as a plugin! I’ve just taken all my Syntakt samples, made a bunch of chains and now I’m in techno heaven :+1: :sunglasses:

Thanks for making this!
