There’s presumably some reason why the author specified that it will not work on the Mk1. I wouldn’t be the one to test it out.

If I’d kept MKI along with MKII, I would have tested on MKI.

I didn’t expected much from an official new update, except extended RLEN (limited to 64 steps as defined value).
Also interested in 16 parts per bank, Pickups Timestresh / Tempo change disabling, midi parameters to scenes, new fx…

Now is the perfect time to outsource a cheap, even non aesthetically perfect OT for testing purposes… I’ve already 2MKI and 1MKII but… No risks with them. This also could open the Elektron firmware for tweaking other models…AR/A4 Very interesting/promising.
I’m trying this out right now, and it seems the reverb only works on master track and nowhere else. Unsure if it’s due to my own mistake in the compiling process. And another big thing is that FX2 is completely replaced by the new fx and gets rid of all the FX1 that were available to use on FX2 slot. Gonna play around for a bit but I’ll just go back to the official firmware until it’s worked on a lot more than its current state.

Until I see evidence this can be applied to OTmk1 and 2, repeatedly (eg instal and uninstal) without bricking the machine. I’m not touching it.
There’s that hacktribe thing for the electribe 2 that allows you to run both OS versions at once. Plenty of bricked electribes out there though as a result.
This would be very cool if someone has cracked it and can expand what the OT can do.
So next question is- are the new fx any good?
Are they as tweakable and experimental as the Original fx?

Thr reverb currently seems to only work by being on the master channel and “sending” to it from individual channels. the sounds are pretty tweakable, sure, but currently too buggy to be actually usable. lots of metallic hissy sounds as you tweak parameters.
only the reverb is available. delay doesn’t work yet. selecting it will just produce extremely high pitched noise.
this particular firmware version with these 2(ish) FX are not really exciting as is, but the fact that such endeavor is possible now is what i’m super excited about.
i successfully compiled the Maxolydian version of the firmware that the octabam is branching off of, and maxolydian fw seems to work okay without trouble. Lazy transition and non-timelimited bank/pattern selection is pretty nice for live performances. Oh, and extra scales for the MIDI arp.

from what i understand, it won’t realistically “brick” the ot completely unusable as the bootloader is always available via Func + power on.
I’m not sure what I did wrong, but initially, when i flashed the maxolydian firmware via cf card using .bin file, it completely froze up during boot and stuck there. So I simply func+powered on and reflashed it with .syx file instead via MIDI upgrade and now it works fine.
I presume any time you flash it with a non-functional or defective firmware, you can always just reflash vanilla firmware using this method.
But of course, there’s no harm in taking extra precautions and wait for further development/stabilization/testimonies. Especially at this stage, when the benefits yielded by taking risk is pretty minimal.

Pretty expensive for a smacked OT, footprints on it, brocken screen without display. I sold my OT MKI 450€ iirc, brocken pattern button. If I knew about potential experimental firmwares, I may have kept it.

Does it use an fx slot for send ?
If so it doesn’t seem much more interesting than using CUE as fx send (possible internal CUE recording as fx return).
