Octa and Digitakt + a bit of Ableton; noob Questioné

Hi all,

After a few months of watching Octatrack threads and video’s, I am about to just take the plunge. I’m still a bit hesistant but I can easily sell it if it doesn’t click and learning stuff is half the enjoyment for me.
I have a question about workflow with Ableton; right now I have the benefit of not being used to any sort of workflow as a noobie/hobby producer. I’ve got Ableton working with Digitakt as a sort of hybrid set-up that i really enjoy; triggering soft synths via DT.
Now I have been undecisive between investing in an OT for the reasons I like the DT and more; taking me out of the box mostly.
Other option was to get a launchpad and use ableton session view more…

I was wondering; If i keep using the DT as a drumcomputer / midi controller for soft synths in ableton will I be able to steer stuff with the Fader? Is anyone else using Ableton + octatrack? I’m not looking for a Daw vs dawless discussion :smiley:

If a pair of output of your soundcard go into a pair of input of the OT, yes you can manipulate the sound in realtime with the crossfader and knobs.

Nice; that’s something I’ll do for sure; since you cannot sample via USB right?

Nop, OT doesn’t support Overbridge. But, you can plug an USB cable to transform your OT in a 1000+ € Compact Flash Card Reader.

Sounds as quick as elektron transfer; But recording audio is easily done with Jacks.

If you like sampling, you won’t be disapointed with OT. And take your time to read the manual and try what you read in same time. It’s really don’t complicate to use and I found the learning curve is very quick as my 2nd Elektron device.
