Observations from 1 month with the Make Noise Shared System

Ooh, very nice system there.

I’m really attracted by the amount of thought and history Make Noise put into their stuff. Sometimes I have to think about some of the things they do for a long time before they click and make sense. Like for example the “distributed mixing” idea of their systems didn’t really gel with me until this week. That does make it hard for me to decide to invest big money into a whole system out of panic-buying FOMO, though. One other thing I’ve noticed is that sometimes the older generation of a module seems like it would be more fun or immediate to use, at least on paper from reading the manuals. I’m thinking here of Phonogene vs Morphagene, Rosie (the cue output! cool!) and maybe the earlier Rene. And I kind of miss the funky oscillators Mysteron and Telharmonic. It kind of sounds like I should build my own OG system one piece at a time on Reverb, though RxMx prices are pretty high and that’s something I think I’d really enjoy using. I’m intrigued by the idea of a future stereo-oriented system with a shiny new stereo Erbe-Verb (though a lot of stereo reverbs just sum input anyway, so…) but maybe XPan into a stereo effects chain is the way to go.

I think too much.
