Unless someone at the company starts to realise that new customers, new sales is a good idea.
Maybe they want to keep that lower hanging fruit for other times.
Theyâve certainly released a lot of desktops - I assume if they thought it would be worth the cost in retooling and cannibalized sales of the keyboard versions (of both the Take5 and TEO 5) theyâd do it.
Definitely getting some old school nostalgia on the recent Oberhiemâs. I think this one may have features Iâd like over the OB-6. Mmm⌠I like that form factor a lot.
Hi guys! Please give me a hand!
No matter what I do, I canât tune the 1st oscillatorâŚ
Is there a way or do I have to send my unit back?
Thanks a lot!
That doesnât sound right, itâs been a while since your post, I wonder if your unit was defective?
I am having a problem related to intonation with my Teo-5. When changing patches the intonation is sometimes off for about half a second and then stabilises. This doesnât happen with all patches and I havenât figured out if itâs a fault with my instrument or something I am not seeing - for a while I thought it had something to do with some modulation happening on the mod matrix, but that doesnât seem to be the case. Has anyone experienced anything similar?
I also thought that it could have something to do with the effects being carried over. But this âissueâ is more noticeable when switching to patches that donât use any FX at all. And it is always intonation, the second patch starts about a quarter tone or more either lower or higher (it feels kind of random which). And it doesnât always happen, depending on which patch I switch from to which other patch. So kind of weird.
I recorded a little audio take where I keep repeatedly playing C while switching patches. You can clearly hear the instability of the intonation I was referring to (I think).
Can someone shed some light on this?
Never owned a Teo (but not so secretly desired one since launched) so donât know what Iâm talking about, but could it be when going from a patch with portamento to a patch without, or the other way around?
None of the patches I played use portamento, and beside that, I kept playing the same note over and over⌠So thatâs not it -but thanks for trying!
It seems that the information I gave yesterday was only partially correct. In addition to noise modulating slightly (-2) the frequency of the oscillators, I also had LFO1 routed to OscAllFreq with a value of 7. So this morning I discovered what is causing this behaviour. And it is the combination of the LFO routed to OscAllFreq and the noise modulating the same destination by a tiny amount. If the patch contains only one of the two modulations, it doesnât happen (or happens to a much lesser extent). But if both are present, the LFO amount (I think that is it) needs a bit of time to stabilise. I think you woud be able replicate this on your synth.
The interesting thing is that I couldnât reproduce this behaviour on the Take5. Probably because on the Take5 you have OscAll Fine instead of OscAll Freq, which isnât really the same. And I used to modulate OscAll Fine with a bunch of sources on the Take5 without experiencing this behaviour, so I didnât expect it on the TEO-5. It seems that the 2 synths are more different than I first thought.
Note that I did these tests this morning in a hurry before going to work, so I could be wrong on some points.
So this is a reply to myself I guess
Yes, it was defective and so it seems to be yoursâŚ
Does anybody have a good gig bag solution for this that is NOT the ridiculously overpriced Analog Cases one recommended by Sequential?
Just got one that was a customer return. The knobs are all so stiff on this bad boy. Can anyone confirm if their cutoff knob is less stiff than the rest of them? Mine is not super loose or anything but since itâs a customer return I thought Iâd ask.
Well, after a lot of trying, it seems to be the same with mine. No matter what I do, calibrate with different temperatures etc, one oscillator is always about 1ct lower than the rest and another oscillator about 2.5ct lower than the rest. How did Oberheim solve your problem? Did they send you a new board to replace or did you have to send your unit in? Just curious.
Mine were also quite stiff at first, but now after a few months they feel just right.
A bit late but: I used a 49 key gator cases case (Gator GKB-49), and rolled up a towel to place on either side of the keyboard. A bit bigger than you need but you can also fit a larger keybed in it if you decide to do that later.
They can be found new for under $100 and well under $100 if you hunt.
I sent it back, they sent me another.
The âbudgetâ sequential synths since the pro 3 have all had these oddly stiff pots. The prophets and the ob6 have normal action but the stiffness on the pro 3, take 5, and teo is just weird and uncomfortable to program. Not trying to be hyperbolic, but they really are the worst pots of any $1500+ synth that Iâve come across in the last 10 years in terms of comfort. Maybe theyâre super reliable in terms of skipping or max turns but they still are pretty bad from a UI standpoint IMO.
Hey there, I ended up ordering a Pelican case (v700).
I think I got tunnel vision searching and it was more expensive than I wanted, but the ârecommendedâ case from Analog Cases was 500 dollars CAD which is one of the most ridiculous price tags Iâve ever seen.
Iâve been told they loosen but yeah itâs crazy and not very fun to use them when the unit is new. Iâm probably going to reluctantly buy the overpriced Soundtower editor partly for this reason and partly so I donât have to be out of my speakersâ sweet spot when programming it. Then I wonât even be using the knobs:)
Weird, I prefer the pots on the recent ones (and on the Trigon-6). Pots that turn too easily bug me, I like a little resistance and I prefer a bit too much over a bit too little.
Probably because I have to engage more of my arm to make precise adjustments when there is no resistance, but I find the super loose ones like some of the knobs on my Rev2 really annoying.
