OB AD vs Analog out!

Hey all,

Well OB2 is finally here and i couldn’t be happier. OB has never worked for me but now at long last it seems to be flawless!

So was always curious about the AD conversion via OB so thought i would A/B test my A4. Im quite shocked by the result, what are your thoughts?

guess which is OB and which is direct out - Note conversion is via my Motu 8A.

converted down to mp4 for upload too. Link above!

I’m guessing the second one is the OB take. PM me the results if you could. Just curious but don’t want to spoil it for anyone.

just listening with my notebook speakers, forgive me for judging by that … ( so 50% / 50%)

1.) OB
2.) Analog (there is just something after second 22 which sounds thru this lousy speakers more detailed for a fracture of a second, just some distortion can’t say what exactly)

interesting!

i think the MP4 conversion doesnt help the matter, but still audible i think

i got an experience with my AR thru OB and it sounds not bad but also not great - a bit muffled

but i did no testing with my Motu 828 mk3

Panning is reversed? Through my iPhone in-ears I clearly hear more depth to no 1.

I hope that is analog :ecstatic:

just phase of the pan LFO.

yeah this has opened my eyes/ears to it. Without A/Bing i always thought there wasn’t such a difference.

Going to run the AR via analog out when i get a minute. Digitone i’m not sure would benefit? Thoughts?

Which is which?

The 2nd was Direct out!

Hard to distinguish since they are not the same recorded phrase.

The filter modulation does not start the same in each clip.
You can easily tell as the delay lines at 4-5 seconds in is filtered differently in each recording. (well, all the delay lines, actually).

So not really an A/B, per se

yeah i couldn’t hear much of a difference on my car speakers. kind of satisfying to know that actually

It’s pretty noticeable from my listening setup. The first one sounds muddier and less dynamic. Of course, in context it may not really matter. Thanks for doing this. Would love to hear another go with more exact parameters used and in original 24/48 wav files for download.
