Novation Launchkey MK4

I connected the keyboard to the Move via the CME U6MIDI Pro which works without any problems. I only noticed the issue when I connected the keyboard directly to the Move. I don’t think the problem is with Novation, as there are some other class-compliant MIDI devices that don’t work with the Move either.

One other thing does the mk4 come with a midi breakout cable?

Nope

The funny thing is it’s the opposite over at Arturia. Great keys, decent DAW control and rubbish pads. This is a collab that would never happen but would be fun. Novation to do all the DAW stuff, make the pads etc, but then let Arturia slot in with the swanky little slim keys. Would sell like hot cakes I’m sure.

The only thing I wish is that the arpeggiator pads could be programmed in all 16 steps instead of just 8

Today I realized that the Chord Mode(s) and the Arpeggiator cannot be combined with each other.

I’m afraid that’s a showstopper for me. I bought the device for exactly these kinds of gimmicks …

I got my mini 37 today, works flawlessly for me via usb with move, weird that your unit won’t play ball in that respect, so far I really like it, I don’t think the keys feels too bad for the size they are…

Yeah, I’m really hoping they address that in a firmware update. Novation has a pretty decent track record of listening to user requests and implementing them so we’ll see!

You can use the chord mode with the arp on move like loopop does in his review though, obvs not as many arp modes but is does work quite nicely…

One of the main intentions behind purchasing the Mini MK4 was to avoid the use of Move’s really boring arp

Mini 37 arriving tomorrow.

Question. I remember the chords had a strum parameter? Can you set it super low to mimic playing a chord loosely? So it doesn’t sound mechanical ? But in a way so it doesn’t sound like an arp either.

The Chord Map mode has a roll parameter. When it’s all the way down it will play all the notes at once and as you increase the value it rolls the notes like an arpeggio. You can set it to small values, but it rolls the notes with an even time division and velocity, and it always rolls from the lowest note to the highest so it doesn’t really have a loose “human” feel to it, imo. You can hear it here in the Loopop demo at 13:20 (sorry, put in a timestamp but it doesn’t seem to be working properly).

I see. It’s still good enough I guess.

Anyone who knows how to map the faders to stuff? There’s no midi learn AFAIK and I cannot find the CC values of Analog Lab stuff

Very easy actually. you can make a preset within Arturia plugins. Basically functions exactly the same as a keylab controller now.

According to the manual, there seems to be a setting which controls the source of the arp:

Funny, that exactly this option does not appear in the Settings menu of my LK Mini MK4. And yes, the current firmware is installed on my device.

That setting would probably be the solution to my problem of not being able to combine the chord pads with the arpeggiator.

EDIT:

This seems to be an error in the Launchkey Mini manual. The larger Launchkeys have two parts A and B, which are used for splits. The Minis not. So Novation just forgot to remove the parameter description from the Mini’s manual.

I’ve been looking into the LKmk4 range and I just want to confirm: The pads have aftertouch but the keys don’t, right?

How Loopop said it, they each respond to pressure. None of the keys across the line have aftertouch.

Thanks.

I’m currently looking at either a Launchkey Mk4 37 (not the mini version) or a Keystep37, and I was wondering -

In this thread there’s been a few mentions of the LK mini keys being worse than the keystep mini keys, but what would the comparison be between the keystep mini and the Launchkey standard keys (the ‘synth’ ones on the LK 25 and 37, not the semi-weighted ones they put on the 66 etc)?

They’re a bit larger, but still not weighted, so I wonder if the key feel when playing piano-style pieces is better than the mini keys, or if its just the same and the keystep is still better (?)
