Novation Launch Control XL Mk3

This is normal behaviour, because the knobs are sending absolute midi messages they cause the OT to snap to the LCXL value. Same the other way around, I suspect if you turned the OT knob first then the LCXL knob would snap to position.

Check this, it might help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQGvQkAsjxM

There’s this comment under the video, which if true, means you could set a button to send that value so you could load the project, press the button, and the LCXL updates values.

Indeed, and it s a damn shame all the other elektron devices don’t have this feature.

That did work. It uses up a button, but the OT does send all CC values to the LCXL. Thank you.

Why not with the MIDI Din ports? Just curious.

It’s in the studio and I already have an iConnectivity device for DIN and USB MIDI routing, filtering, etc. I’d rather one cable from the LCXL than 3.

Makes sense. Less cables is nice.

No worries! You could always make a custom mode that just has that button on it, then switch back to your main mode. I’ve done this for my setup where I have some controls I won’t use often on the second mode.

This is what I’m also thinking. One mode for every instrument, plus one “utility mode” where I can add housekeeping functions such as what you describe. 15 memory slots is plenty for such an approach

Hello,
could I please ask you for a more detailed guide on how to configure such a button? On which MIDI channel should it send CC? On all the ones where I want to control the n-knobs?

I tried it yesterday and it doesn’t work, please advise:

  • I connected LCXL and OT with two MIDI cables,
  • for each channel I created one momentary button that sends CC 61 with 0 on ON and 127 on OFF.

Did I make a mistake somewhere?

Thanks a lot for the explanation and have a nice day.

I don’t own an OT so I can’t test but the OT has to send midi back to the LCXL, I would check to see if it’s sending messages out. And maybe the LCXL global settings as well?

This is my config. The MIDI channel should be any of the ones you configured in Settings → MIDI → Channels. You only have to configure one button to sync the entire state of the OT.

Is it possible for the pads on the bottom to send CC values?

Thanks!

It sure is, see below. Also, if anyone wants to poke around at what’s possible the web-based version of Components, the app to build configurations, can be accessed here even without the hardware: https://components.novationmusic.com/

Just go to “Show all products”, choose the Launch Control XL3, and you have full access to the profile-builder interface.

I have a Launchkey 61 mk4, and the pots are nice but stiff and slow moving… I can’t imagine going from 0-127 quickly if it were needed.

How are the pots on the new Launch Control? I would like to get quite expressive with sends/macros, maybe a a Faderfox EC4 would be a better option?

From my limited experiments so far, the pots feel good. Easy to rotate quickly for extreme changes, or slowly to get more precise.

That said, I’ve heard a lot of good things about Faderfox gear. I don’t think you can go wrong. For me the tipping point was the price of the Launch Control XL3, you get a lot of hardware control for a relatively low price, though it takes up more space. Tough to choose…

Mine is taking forever to arrive brrr…
I remembered the lightshow that my Launchpad mk2 did plugged in, please tell me this does not flash lights plugged in. Or that it can at least be turned off without unplugging.

Ok so mine arrived, no led show yay! But some worrisome problems. The mapped parameters from Overbridge don’t react to the plugin state i.e. if I change the parameters from those mapped parameters they stay at that value even when I reload the pattern. Am I doing something wrong or is it a software bug on their end? I tried setting DN2 input remote on but no difference. The values reset in the plugin but not the Ableton Live mapped values. The mapped parameters do reflect the value once if changed internally again either from the plugin or the Digitone but if I try to change them from the LC they jump back to the value it reads then. This also happens with Ableton’s CC control plugin so Digitone or the OB plugin don’t tell the values back to the DAW when pattern is reloaded.

Anyone knows if some kind soul did a basic mapping for waveform pro? Traktion will certainly release an official version at some point, but not yet IIRC.

Sorry if this is obvious or easy to find, but I didn’t find any info.

I was thinking about midi cable chaining like this:
Rytm (clock) → launch control xl MK3 → digitone

I wanna use the faders on launch as modwheel for digitone.

Does the launch control receive and send clock? Chatgpt says it don’t, but it also says LCXMK3 has TRS midi, so…

Have you read the manual? Perhaps this is a better way of finding information than asking ChatGPT. Just saying…

You need to change the default and then it should send the midi clock out of the midi thru port.
