Novation Circuit Rhythm and Circuit Tracks

Dang. I guess I was reading a little too hopefully into this from the manual. Thanks for confirming.

Resample On/Off

Pad 31 in Row 4 (above the Keyboard text) selects the audio source for sample recording.

The default setting (pad lit dim red) enables recording from the external audio inputs. Pressing the pad (lights bright green and grid briefly displays ‘RSP’) selects the internal audio engine as the recording source: select this option if you want to resample internally processed sounds, or sample the external inputs after being processed by Grid FX.

With resample enabled, you may record audio from external and internal sources at the same time.

Dang, I have rhythm and tracks, both like new. I would have traded probably for your tracker lol.

I am debating whether i wanna keep them or not to be honest. I don’t touch them much really since i got them but I got them both turned on right now to make sure if i wanna sale / trade or not lol.

I did find something that I like using tracks for! A chord machine lol. Just find a sound you like and then do a chord on the keyboard section while holding a block on the top row. Do another chord and hold another block etc. Keep repeating for several blocks with different chords and now just play the blocks on the top row instead of the keyboard and you have a chord machine  lol Play with the octave up and down buttons too when putting in chords.

Yes I figured that out on original circuit. You could mute the synth and actually perform over other sequences by pressing the pads you programmed even though you muted  There’s many more tricks and I hope to cover them on my yt

I wanna know all these tricks

For the circuit tracks: Is it possible to add a note to a step in micro step view? I have my purple buttons at the bottom indicating the notes for a step. Can I add a note in this view? Or any other way to add flams/multi triggers etc.

Pages 48-51 of the manual point to the answer being no. You need to have the notes of the step already defined for a maximum of 6. Then you can set set the micro steps with those 6 to make flams or strums.

Add it on to that step in live record then move it about within the step using the editor

Only problem with this, creating hihat rolls or similar is hard  I am using the tracks as a sequencer for my sp404

(Probably won’t suit your workflow but…

How about reserving a track for ratchets and rolls.

Have it running faster than the others (pattern set up) and fill it with variations (some could be just 1 or 2 steps long)

Then drop in the rolls ‘live’ with unmute/mute track

Elektronauts exclusive:
I’m thrilled to announce that some intrepid soul has finally found metal knobs that fit the Circuit Tracks. And that person is me

I will update with the details after some shimming

Not just metal… Metal, slightly bigger grip radius, fluted shaft, spun finish cap! :star_struck:

You have excellent taste in knobs.

I wonder, is there a female version of Michael Scott to comment on that?

Okay I just got the knobs on. This is not a fun job but it looks good in the end. The problem? The encoder shafts on the Circuit Tracks are 6mm d-shafts, but the replacement knobs are for 6.4mm fluted shafts. So you have to shim.

Materials

Tools

  • 2mm hex wrench
  • scissors or tin snips
  • needle-nose pliers

Steps

  1. Cut ten pieces of the shim stock to be 10mm x 16mm - precision is recommended.
  2. Shape the shims into D-shapes by wrapping around the shafts and flattening with pliers
  3. Loosen the grub screw on the knob and partially insert the shim - flat side facing the grub screw.
  4. With the tip of the pliers, spread out the exposed end of the inserted shim.
  5. Push the assembly onto the shaft and pray it actually slides on. Expect a lot of trial and error. It takes a lot of force.
  6. Make sure the knob hasn’t completely bottomed out and then tighten the grub screw.

Note 1: the DJ Filter knob sits on a 19mm recessed hole (the others were 16mm) and has a longer D-shaft so you’ll need to align that knob by hand before tightening.

Note 2: Don’t try this with 0.2mm shim stock. It makes mathematical sense but is nearly impossible to get on. 0.15mm shim stock has no perceptible wobble despite being theoretically off-centered by 0.1mm

Some pictures of the process

End result is missing indicator lines for the Volume and DJ Filter. I need to come up with a way to mark these elegantly on anodized aluminum because I am missing them.

I’m pretty sure a decksaver will no longer fit, but I don’t own one. These metal knobs are at least 3mm taller than the stock knobs.

I’m seeing some discounted Circuits “stock clearance” on some local retailers in Bucharest, Romania.

Could it be? Could we see a Circuit Pro?
I’d actually grab one. I was about to cave in to get a Rhythm, but I remember the things I didn’t like about it

I really hope so.

I still have a special place in my heart for them, but they so desperately need a device that contains the best of the Rhythm and Tracks and it would be unbeatable.

I still enjoy playing with the Circuit and Circuit Tracks but I think the Ableton Move has pushed it out as my site on the sofa device. I really hope they bring out a Circuit Pro.

Not out of the question. There’s been a new LaunchControlXL leak. So it looks like new product season is here…
