Do I need one?
No.
Can it do anything I cant already do with the gear i have?
Not really.

Yeah.

Double the tracks on your OT
or circuit tracks?
Just ordered one. Too much praise here never had a circuit, excited to try the workflow.
My 4th sampler, I‘m afraid the pe tracker has to go, if I like the circuit enough.
Imagine how blown away I was to be told by @calc it works with projects too
So one possible workflow:
Make a cool track, copy the project, on the copies do crazy stuff like drops, fills, repitching, go nuts, set mutes, set patterns, set latched grid fx, set fx sends.
Now enable shift latch…
You can have your song trundling along nicely, then at any time you can hit the pads of other project copies for instant on the spot - and with respect to the position of the playhead - mutations, then jump around like whack-a-mole for total instant improve performance fun.
Game has changed. This is huge for me.
It is like scenes on OT x punch in fx x total recall, all under precise and efficient elegant user control, a dream.
But of course there are many other use cases for this too. I’m only a few days in, and had limited time with it, but enough to know the immense creative potential under the very simple to manage and operate user interface. Without doubt an instrument which rewards the relatively simple learning curve in spades.
Maybe that too
who thought the the circuit could bring so much joy? i´ve forgot them after the mk1, because i didn´t managed to load up my own samples via the crude editor…it was impossible!
saw the new one in the musicstore…the new hardware looks very nice!
Well if it can bring joy to this grumpy old curmudgeon that is saying something
Yeah it looks kind of fab too, the really nice RGB LED colours against the greyish panel proves that modern gear does not have to look like it is festooned with cheap Xmas lights :cough: Roland
It’s very cool. But it’s not as tight as I’d like it to be. There’s sometimes a gap in audio when moving from project to project.
I think that if direct jumping between scenes could be added then we could get some of that same effect without that gap, which I assume just comes from loading the project.
But the MIDI thing is what I’d really want. I like using my Rhythm with my Digitakt. Right now, controlling the Rhythm externally is a lot like controlling the Digitakt. So it works. I did a project this way earlier in the year. But it’s pretty wonky.
Yes I noticed that too if my timing isn’t exact, maybe a quantise option in the background could be implemented to avoid it happening.
Waiting on audio examples
The output is definitely a bit low, I suspect it is a firmware feature to preserve headroom and prevent clipping. I find I need to add 12db gain after the output to get CR on par level wise with my other gear.
When I upload samples I can get them to the same sort of level as the factory content, just make sure they are normalised to 0db or a hair below.
You have a couple of options once they are loaded to make them a bit louder - track mixer, which IIRC defaults to about 4/5ths max level, and velocity - I tend to set my kicks at max velocity for main hits, and the track level at max too - I suspect this is how the factory stuff sounds louder, but I have not checked.
How do people find the Circuit Tracks as a sound design device?
I bought a CT and initially really enjoyed it, but ended up gravitating towards a Polyend Tracker as it seemed to offer a bit more control and flexibility. One of the frustrations of the CT was the lack of sound design beyond macros and blind browsing a limited subset of synth patches.
I thought rather than sell it I’d try and use it as a sound module for the Polyend and hooked it up to Components, but though it seems like quite a powerful synth in terms of options I’m struggling to get sounds I like out of it compared to the only other hardware synth I own (Reface CS which is super inspiring), or my software experiments with Pigments.
Is this just my limited skills or is it not the easiest environment for sound design?
AFAIK CT sound engine is based around the Nova engine which is pretty deep and capable, so maybe spend a bit of time editing on components to get the sounds you are after, I believe you can live preview them if CT is connected to your computer.
I think there are a few people selling sound packs for CT too, maybe check some of those out?
One can also boost the volume with the distortion [though actually I’d prefer if it would compensate].
Btw., it is an awesome sounding distortion, it works on every sound and not on just some sounds.
The components synth GUI is a bit clumsy (like how basic functionality is somewhat hidden in the Mod Matrix), but it can do pretty much any sound. Lots of OSCs including Wavetable … there’s even a 3 band EQ, different types of Distortion …
you can use a launchcontrol to control the circuit parameters
Hmm I have a launchkey Mini, would that work?
I bought these patches -
They are outstanding and really show how capable the Nova engine is.
I don’t know, look for a template, i got the OG & i use a template for a behringer bcr 2000
