So… 26 Mixes For Cash In The Attic?

And that is a joke which won’t make sense to anyone outside of the UK… I’ll get me coat.

Hey, does anyone have backups of the four BS2 default AFX overlays that you could get through Components before October 20th? The ā€˜Send Default AFX Overlays’ is gone from Components now and has been replaced with the AFX Overlay Editor and the seven new Overlays. The four defaults from last year are nowhere to be found. I emailed Novation and after a couple of messages back and forth I can’t seem to get them to fully understand what I am talking about.

I guess this is both a request and a warning for those who want to retain those four default overlays from last year. They need to be backed up in the new AFX Overlay Editor before they are overwritten by new overlays.

Thanks

I have the 4.14.19 firmware and the defaults, but grabbing them off the BSII via sysex appears to be a convoluted mess.

Does the 4.15 firmware overwrite the 4.14 overlays, or do they stay put until you send the new overlays via Components?

I am pretty sure I still had the four default overlays after upgrading the firmware. I loaded in the 7 new ones thinking the 4 old ones would still available via the ā€˜Send Default AFX Overlays’ option. My fault for not checking to see if that option was still in the latest Components. If I had known, I would have simply backed up the 4 old default ones as User overlays with the new AFX Overlay librarian.

Would be a safe bet to use this old method to back up the four default overlays before upgrading, just to have all bases covered.

NovationBSII_AFXOverlay-1.syx (2.6 KB)
NovationBSII_AFXOverlay-2.syx (2.6 KB)
NovationBSII_AFXOverlay-3.syx (2.6 KB)
NovationBSII_AFXOverlay-4.syx (2.6 KB)

The 0 file is a control.

I did a quick test on the first overlay and it seemed to work. Hope it works for you.

Anyone have a Roland SE-02 and prefer it over the Bass/AFX Station?

I picked an SE-02 over the Bass Station when looking for a new mono a few years ago. While I’ve only used a BS in the store briefly I used to own a Super BS and had a Peak at the time so the BS II seemed redundant.

Anyways, just want to put it out there that the SE-02 receives nearly instantaneous program and CC changes so it’s possible to pull off some unexpected percussion and other weirdness that way, when sequencing from the Digitakt and p-locking. Sorry for the derail, over and out…

Maybe this has already been said… but the AFX mode was a free firmware update quite a while back.

Anyone could pick up a second hand BS2, and its probably already got the update, or if not, its still free.

Or if you have a BS2, you most likely have this already.

I had 2 BS2s. Great synth. Gread firmware updates. Never used the AFX mode though, couldnt be bothered to set it up. Programme changes over midi was quicker. And it could do that from day 1.

The main thing I like about this edition is having the secondary functions written on the panel. I do wish the knobs were easier to read, though.

Well, on a whim I sold my BSII to fund an AFX Station. The purple is beautiful, and proper labels will be a big benefit.

I’m not really convinced that it will be a collectors item though.

Made a cool track using AFX-mode:
1 take of bs2 in afx mode, 1 take 303 and a voice sample

Gotta say Iā€˜m impressed. Thanks to novation, afx and the programmers for caring and the update work.
I just dont click with the rhythm selection thing and no ā€žsound like encoder position buttonā€œ but apart from that bs2 is now my favourite drummachine after a4.
Also components is impressive tecnically (ok i preferred the simpler older thing).
The earlier overlays mentioned above are also not from the master himself? ( no on or garden of linmiri overlay…?)
