Nord Sample Library and Midi sequence possibilities

Hello guys,
i am going through several posts here and i have to say i am very impressed by the support the Elektronauts community is providing to newbies like me. Congratulations guys for the dedication to this wonderful company called Elektron (even though they tease us more with this new product than a stripper in Atlantic city).

I am litteraly about to buy an OT and i’m sure pretty much everything is possible with this machine.
though, i have a few questions on diverse topics.

  1. I’m a big fan of Nord Samples and my dream would be to implement the Nord Sample Library in the OT so i don’t have to bring an Electro 5 on stage. I know i could record the Nord samples on the files one by one in The OT and then play them back but it seems like a real hassle. SO, my question is, is it possible to implement the Nord Sample Library in the OT (given some kind of conversion of course, since the Nord Library uses propietary format) and play them chromatically as if if were a Nord Product ? More generally, how does it the Octatrack behave with PCM sounds ?

  2. I have been through the manual and couldn’t find the answer for this. Imagine you have a midi sequence saved up in the OT. What can you do with it, i.e. can for example play it backward or randomly trigger the notes ?

That’s pretty much it guys. Go Elektron, go music, go pizza and of course, hate all haters.

  1. Keep in mind that the OT is 8 tracks of stereophonic playback, there is no polyphony in the sampling side, no overlapping notes. The sample of a note that you may record or send to the OT can only be played chromatically up and down an octave, so it will be timestretched by half or two at either extreme, there’s no multisampling. I don’t see there being any viable path to explore the Nord sounds, except to sample them into your Daw and trim and send to the CF card.

Whether this will work for you depends on how you envisage using the OT, even with a MIDI keyboard attached it won’t become a keyboard substitute, a mono synth at best perhaps

  1. The midi sequencer side is very deep and has masses of creative potential, the stored sequence (on one of 8 midi tracks, which do have ‘polyphony’) can’t be played backwards or randomly, but you can play these sequences manually like a conductor … the LFOs can introduce the randomness or variety so the phrases need not be static, plus, the ARP is very deep … but you can’t stop the sequence unfolding linearly left to right, the lfos can help but no random/backwards/ping-pong etc

Thank you for your quick and thorough response.

  1. I see what you mean. I guess i’m gonna pray for an Electro rack then.
  2. That’s a good news. Can’t wait to get my hands on mine.

thank you again avantronica
