Nord Drum 3 & 3P

…Turns out the test-3D-print is sturdy enough, but needs some small corrections. Hopefully next print is already the final print.

Amazing case

Thickened the bottom ‘plate’ a bit and some holes needed some slight adjustments but all in all I’m very happy with the result.

Edit: anyone interested in the STL file for printing? See a few posts below!

From my experience PETG is better for cases and stands than PLA (it looks like PLA on the photos).
PETG is more flexible and less brittle. These small bridges between a screw hole and an edge of a part are pain, they often break on PLA details.
And you can make thinner PETG walls. Like 2mm is strong enough to support even relatively massive synts like Hydra Desktop.

It’s PETG, my buddy told me.

Alright!

NordDrumEnclosure.stl (265.0 KB)

A few things:

  • It’s not perfect
  • I didn’t do the printing myself, my buddy did that so no idea how you handle this in the printing software (maybe someone can add that?)
  • The model (295mm) was placed diagonally on the tray (don’t know how to do that)
  • Use a ‘good’ 3D printer
  • Use PETG!
  • The print itself needs some adjustments: you need to have fine tools (hobby files!) around!
  • You need to de-solder the pad from the Nord Drum engine (no big deal): make sure you can at least reverse that later
  • We used longer screws on the bottom side than the originals. These holes were most off and needed the most adjustments
  • Handle with care, don’t tighten everything the first time, slowly ‘build’ tightness

…And show your final case (colors anyone?)

Files or files? Files! (I was a bit surprised that the word file also means something different than a sequence of bytes on a medium)

I just realized that I don’t need to cut pads to turn it into a module.
Now I want to make detachable module and pads. It seems pads are connected with 6 wires, so ethernet cable should work. The only problem is place for the connector in a module case, it seems quite tight packed.

Hi! My Nord Drum 3P that I love came second hand without one of those annoyingly bespoke stand mounting adapters. Hoping to finally get it mounted and wondered if anyone who’s removed the pads or done something similar could sell me the adapter. Happy to pay some inflated price plus shipping to the UK for it. Thank you drum saviour if you exist somewhere.

Would love to and already have something similar for my Octapad but I think Nord have not gone for a standard annoyingly.

This one is linked to in the Nord forum (Stand Holder for 3p (& other models) - Nord User Forum) so might work STAND HOLDER MOUNTING BRACKET - Nord Parts - AMS-40550 so might just get that shipped over.

I have that exact one on my Nord Drum 3P

Amaze! OK, I trust you and will buy. Thank you! Love this place.

Well that was a waste of money! As predicted the screw holes don’t in any way line up with the back of the Nord Drum 3P. Can’t see how this could possibly work unless you have some magic trick @SonWu ?

Will continue my hunt for the official part I suppose.

I apologize for my mistake!
I’m happy to pay your Gibraltar attachment for you if you DM me your paypal.
I made sure to check that the item above was the one I originally bought…but forgot I actually repurposed it and used it to attach something else to my stand.
Sorry for the inconvenience

Don’t worry at all. Mostly annoyed at Nord for not using a standard mount and making it really hard to find one. I’ll keep this Gibraltar one and probably use it on something else one day.

I’ve reached out to Nord’s UK distributor to try to get a spare official part so we’ll see.

If anyone does have one of these plastic things they don’t think they’ll ever use let me know!

My experience with the Nord distrubutors was not good but good luck on that!

Another approach might be to find a place where you can do 3D printing and simply make an adapter (like the VESA adapters for monitors) that allows you to connect the device to a standard mount.

The specs are:

  • the Nord Drum 3P screw holes are sized to accept M4x8 screws
  • the distance between the four holes (centre of hole to center of hole) is 80mm in the horizontal direction and 50mm in the vertical direction.
