Nord 3P Pad Follow Weirdness

Sequencing a Nord 3P with Ableton 9 - I get this weird Pad Follow issue with CC enabled - can anyone help me? Pad Follow is happening even when it’s disabled…

I had the opposite problem. I’m sequencing the Nord Drum 3P from a Digitakt, Pad Follow is ON but not working when I trigger the notes from the Digitakt. Made me think it only works when using the pads. But your issue… no idea.

Maybe an obvious question, but are you sequencing each part / pad on separate midi channels? If so, the only thing that comes to mind is CC messages being sent to 70 (channel select).

I wonder if it’s not a sort of MIDI feedback issue. What if you try and disconnect the MIDI out cable from the Nord Drum?

Local Off?

As soon as you turn Local OFF you cannot control any of the parameters as it turns off the buttons too, which is pretty stupid - you think it would only turn off the pads…

It’s all on the same Midi Channel 10. I did this for simplicity reasons. It’s bizarre, you would think the problem would perhapshappen with the drums set to individual midi channels than just one.

No sadly it makes no difference with the Midi Out disconnected. The Pad Follow still keeps happening…

I’m assuming you’ve tried to turn it off and on? Might be possible that there’s a weird state thd machine arrived at… Weird!

Else I just saw in the manual that CC 70 is channel select. Could channel select be it?

I’m going to connect it up to my MPC2500 and use it as a midi analyser to work this out… if it was CC70, the Nord would be receiving a CC value from each note triggered?

I still don’t understand how Ableton could be sending this as it doesn’t happen with the Digitakt or MPC 2500 when used as the sequencer.

If you try to send CC messages on channel
10 (or whatever your “master” channel is for the ND3P), it will only affect the channel that is selected on the unit. This can be extremely useful - you can jump around to different channels and make adjustments with a MIDI controller set to channel 10. Otherwise, send CCs on channel 1 to control the first voice, 2 for the second (assuming you’ve got it set up that way), etc.

Yeah right.

Have you found the culprit? I’m curious…

@8bitBarry me too, as I have just ordered the Nord Drum 3P because I liked playing with it at Superbooth 2022 so much. As a former drummer I love the small size while still having this dynamic drumming experience.

Has anyone solved this ?!!

I had mine working perfect for almost a year and NOW its behaving the same as in the video. And its getting worse… eot when i trigger 1 pad many of the sound at the same time.
Im also having the same issue when sending midi to a single channel… “many sounds are activate EOT … ive tried every Midi Configuration i could have imagined.
Tried controlling it via ableton
Via an Mpc
And the problem persists

I’m the OP.

No I’ve never solved it. Drives me mad, I’ve had to settle that I can only edit the Nord when using Ableton when it’s not playing. Stops it being a performance tool sadly.
It only does this for Ableton, not with the Digitakt, I’m using the latest version of Ableton and it still persists.

If anyone ever finds a fix I’ll be so grateful.

Thank you very much for your reply !!

Ive read in a forum that people are sending their unirs back to Clavia for a new replacement. On this forum people they claim some units of the 3 p have been manufactured with faults :frowning:
If thats true… mine is one of them and i moved down to south America : (

If anyone knows anything ill be happy to hear

That would make sense to me. Mine goes wrong and needs a hard reset on regular basis, but with such complex array of messages its receiving from a computer I did wonder if it had faults from the start. Its perfectly fine until it receives MIDI. I am going to contact Nord and ask them what to do. I live in the UK.

Yesterday i filled in this form

and today a technician company in the USA contacted me …asking for videos of the Nord 3 behaviour.

Try that out !
fill in your UK region and see how it goes
ill send mi unit to USA if i have to
Best !
