Now that a lot of the major bugs I had with Norand Mono seem to have been fixed, I’d say go for it. It’s a unique, powerful synth and I kind of regret giving up on it as quickly as I did.
Ok, apparently I misremembered, the fixes are in a private beta firmware, not a public stable fw. Norand Mono would be a tossup then.
Thanks that’s why I asked the question as I’ve read about the bugs with the Norand but if they mostly have been fixed I probably will buy that
Thanks
Check out the thread for it here, quite a few people have posted their experiences with it in the relatively recent past and it should give you a good education of whether you will want to try or not.
Will do thxs
One person has reported being happy with it recently after receiving three private betas from the company to fix bugs they reported. There have been no public betas, let alone stable releases, from Norand in some time. I keep my mk1 back at firmware 1.99, from the days before they got simultaneously too ambitious and too distracted, it seems.
I own an Uno Synth Pro X and am very happy with it.
The Norand Mono seems to have a much more powerful sequencer. But the Uno Synth Pro X has more synthesis options to choose from.
I’d say maybe the Uno Synth Pro X because its so much cheaper. Lots of deals to be had.
I can get a Norand for £400 and a Uno from amazon £310
Thanks
I’d like to of considered the Erica synths DB-01 but wasn’t aware of it when buying my mk1 Norand.
I would have more confidence in its longevity as I’ve lost confidence in Norand some.
Having said that, this box sounds good and the sequencer rocks. I’m on 1.99
I had the DB-01 before the Mono and still have both. The DB-01 sounds great and is very solidly built. But it is less flexible, both in its core sound and in how one can change various parameters. And it’s not as if Erica Synths have paid it much attention since release. The MIDI implementation remains marginal.
I, too, have lost some confidence, and it’s curious, the psychological effect it has. Rationally, I have the same machine that I bought, for both of these. But I’m more hesitant to haul out the Mono than I used to be, not so for the DB-01. It’s almost as if the Mono has become fragile in my mind, or if it might do something to disappoint me (which, on 1.99, it has not, so far).
Haha yes totally get that psychological effect, that’s all it is
Interesting about the DB01.
I hadn’t seen the Pro X until just know but the interface does look very nice actually.
If we start talking about DB-01 usecases then Richard DeHove is a must.
DeHove is great but there’s a whole other DB-01 thread. I was just trying to help @Spheric_El not feel as if they were missing out on something by having Mono instead.

The choice is difficult, the two sounds great on the demo
Yeah im having that problem deciding
I’d say, if you’re more into sound design, the envelope+LFO per parameter of the Norand is probably unmatched by the Uno.
The Norand is not just a bass synth in my opinion.
I’ve just played briefly with the Uno and liked it, but it’s not so deep as the Norand.
Owned both and still have the Mono. At that price I’d buy a second Mono in a heartbeat. That’s coming from studio use instead of live though, for live it’s not the most reliable but bouncing patterns to play on a sampler live is worth it if that fits your workflow. The Uno was a great quality synth and pretty versatile, but the Mono is vastly more inspiring to me at least.
Yeah ive been offered one £400 posted
Boring answer: used A4.
