NOOO! My Set suddenly disappeared from the CF card?

Please help me you guys. I was in the middle of recording some patterns last night, just doing the same flow I always do, recording to a sample buffer, then trimming the sample in the audio editor, then ‘save & assign to new slot’. As I was on my fifth sample or so, something popped up about needing to create a Set…I was in the zone and I didn’t really think much of it.

Slowly it donned on me that I was somehow not working in a set now (usually I just do all of my work in a single set and don’t think about it). I tried to mount my usual default set where all of my samples/projects are stored, but there was no set on the card! WTF?!

I put the Octratrack in USB disk mode to check on my computer, and sure enough, the card is now empty…what happened?

Either I somehow managed to accidentally delete my main set from within my usual sample recording flow (I don’t know of a way to do this, and it seems unlikely that this would even be possible)…or the machine somehow glitched out and clobbered my whole CF card…noooo

My one glimmer of hope is that in System->Status it says that I have 9 gigs free out of 15, so it looks like the card still thinks there’s about 6 gigs of data on there, even though it’s not visible.

Any ideas? Is it possible to recover data from a CF card?

Google data recovery cf card.
If it’s corrupt then you may not be able to do anything with what’s retrived and most tools don’t retain a file structure.
May the force be with you

…oh, man…i feel with you…

but somehow we all had to learn to backup the hard way…

never put your trust in one card…at least two cards and. one computer is a must!

I’ve had this happen where windows thinks the card is empty… Don’t freak out. Shut everything down, restart and try again.
