Noob question

Hi, just got the octatrack and i don’t know how to get a loop to play alternative slices altogether as one loop as a youtube video demonstrates. Im trying to simple alter the trigs while the loop is playing so it will play the whole loop and just change the slices it plays all at once. Thanks for the help.

Hi Im an Octotrack noob myself.
If you hold function and press up or down you will get a trig menu which you can change to slices mode.
Is this what you are looking for?

What I am trying to accomplish is create new patterns out of a loop by adding random locks like in this video at 5:14. The problem is that I can’t get the octatrack to play the entire loop back. I’m not sure what I am doing wrong or if there is a setting I must have on before being able to do this. I haven’t messed with any default settings yet.

Check you have loop mode on
You have layed out 8 trigs in the sequencer as per the video
Is the loop longer than the sequence…ie 8bar sequence, 16bar loop.( not sure if this would make any difference)
Check the hold parameter in the amp settings.
I cant really think of anything else at this stage.I havent tried this yet Im going to have a crack at it today.
Someone else will chime in soon and tell you exactly whats going on Im sure.

did you create a slice grid?

Basically it’s like this:

  1. Create slice grid in slice menu
  2. Add trigs to every step (i.e. 1 bar = 16 slices = 16 trigs)
  3. Create random locks in slice menu

Hi guys, first of all, thanks for the help. I will try it out tomorrow and see if it works. I appreciate the help as I really want to get to know th OT inside and out. I’ll let you know if I have any success. Another thing I find odd is that the OT won’t play the loop unless I hold the track button down when I press play. I can’t draw a trigger for the loop to play for some reason even before trying to slice the loop. Obviously, I need to read more of the manual but I do like getting my hands on it to get to grips with the OT. I’ll get back to you later on to see what happens.

…i really don’t read much of all the manuals of my gear…

but honestly, i knew right from day one, i better do with the ot manual…
do yourself a favour and read it at least twice…

I was forced to read the manual. Need to read it again now that I know the OT a bit better.
There are so many tricks and short cuts it would take forever if you just relied on finding your way without a guide.

Could be the amp settings, or loop settings, or something else.
R.T.F.M. :alien:

Well apparently I didn’t have enough trigs set up to actually hear the differences when the randomize slices were changed. All good now, thanks for the help guys.
