I personally have an A4 with my DT and find this setup to be extremely flexible. those two boxes alone transcend the realm of “groove box” and become something of a weird esoteric workstation.

So the A4 is set up as the master because it has a song mode. the DT takes over sampling and external sequencing duties with one voice of the A4 getting sent back to the DT and the other input of the DT is reserved for my ancient Roland D-50 which is also sequenced by the DT.

The A4 is a great sound design platform, so it’s a natural fit for the digitone. the digitone doesn’t have a song mode or FX automation, but it has more midi sequencing features for midi gear. they cover each other’s weaknesses nearly perfectly!
