hey guys, just a little update
I checked that my gain staging was correct and this has definitely helped.
I still hear a slight hiss (like white noise) when I turn on external channels, I think this might actually be simply the regular amount of noise you’d get from an external audio channel
I might do some more investigation but really can’t be asked to unplug everything again, I’d much rather make music instead
I just bought power conditioners for my first outboard rack, and Mr Sweetwater himself was talking about how the power from wall outlets can have a lot of noise and/or fluctuations in voltage, which over time can negatively affect your gear.
Im sure part of this is marketing, to move the product, but im also sure its true to some degree. Aside from the fact that the rack units are protected, how much better is it to have power conditioners as opposed to basic surge protected power strips?
What are best power practices when it comes to taking care of gear long term? Ive had most of my gear only a couple years, and i do plan to keep the majority of it for as long as i can, so any knowledge would be much appreciated.
Also, havent had any issues thus far, but learned somewhat recently my apartment has knob and tube wiring, and half the outlets in my apartment do not have the third hole (ground?). Should i be concerned about either of these things?
