No sound from THRU machines

First merry christmas everyone, hope Santa passed the bag on everybody

So… this issue is driving me nuts !

I’m using the Octatrack in a project only as mixer and FX , pluggin external instruments on all inputs.
So i have 4 THRU machines with several fx and configs. I know that for each THRU machine, i need to put a trig on first step to the sound goes out from the Octa.

The problem is, everything works fine for a while but suddenly some random day i turn on the Octa to work and simply NO SOUND goes out from it ! I can see the input leds flashing, i can see the sequencer moving, but still, no sound at all !

The only fix in this situation is create a new project and re-create all my machines and setups, which is a hassle.

What is happening here ?

I’m sending attached the very project i was working yesterday and stoped to work with this ‘bug’. Maybe you can load the project on your Octa and try to diagnose what is happen , please ? At the moment i have recreated my project dozen of times and i’m in the point of stop to use the Octa because this, as everytime the issue happens i have to stop my work to setup things again.

Thanks !

Hey, I am also using the Octatrack as a mixer and midi sequencer at the moment. When I switch on my Octatrack, the thru tracks do not pass audio. I was also a bit puzzeled about that, but under the through track there is a little icon that displays if it transmits audio or not. Have you tried pressing the track button and play? It should change from a square to a play symbol. Triggering the respective thru track with the sequencer buttons also seems to work. Hope this helps and Happy Holidays!

He said he placed a trig on the thru machine to trig it.

@disco
Have you tried to save the project as new?
I’ll check your project later, maybe I can find something.

Did you look for tracks in solo mode at the mixer page ?

I had a similar thru track issue recently that resolved with a new project……

Thanks for the hints guys, but no lucky so far. Here is more info :

1 - All THRU tracks have a red trig on step 1
2 - All THRU tracks show a triangle below T, not a square
3 - Input leds blink so there is incoming sound
4 - This is new : I tested creating a new STATIC track and loading a sample on it, put a trig BUT still, no sound at all , now not only on the THRU machines, but also internal sounds. If i click AED, i can see the cursor moving on the waveform, but no sound goes out of the Octa.

If i create a new project and do all setup again, it will work. But i’ve been doing this for months, maybe 50 times and tbh i’m tired redoing this to the point to let the Octa go.

Probably i’m missing something or messing up something because it’s unlikely this kind of bug still happens at this point of Octa’s lifetime…

Here is an crazy hipotesis i thought : i have a Deluge that sends midi out, program changes and transp to the Octa. Does the Octa has any midi cc with some kind of ‘silent all’ or ‘mute all’ command that could cause this issue ?

Yes, saving as new just duplicate the issue to the new project .

I think once the project is corrupted/bugged, its over and one must start fresh. Hope im wrong!

There‘s so much that can be controlled with CC or midi notes, but you should be able to see that happening on your OT. Mutes, track levels, amp volume etc. all changes caused by midi are visible in the GUI.

You can disable incoming midi cc and notes and check if it still happens…

I didn‘t find the time to check your project, yet.

A track soloed?

Yep, open the mixer and check for soloed tracks! That‘s one of the few things that can easily trick you. If another device solos a track, that‘s pretty sneaky!

Also check track levels, amp volume and stuff like filters, eqs.

I’d be very happy if the problem was a track soloed, but unfortunately is not the case , I’ve checked mix page and everything is active , nothing on solo

Under Project menu -> midi -> control you can disable incoming midi cc and midi notes.
Uncheck audio cc in and audio note in and check if it still happens.

Will try that .Today i create a new project, doing all configs again and will uncheck midi cc / notes. Let’s see if it fixes the issue, usually when i create the new project, it won’t keep ‘unbugged’ for more than a couple of days. Time will tell.

@disco I opened your project and found the culprit. Check your master track settings. :stuck_out_tongue:

Glad you found it out! :upside_down_face:

My HDMI cable refuses to do any business with me, couldn’t test the project, yet.

Track level is CC46 and CC07 (not sure why they use CC46 and the “standard” CC07 for volume).

Do you need midi CC from the Deluge at all?

Jesus, i can’t believe it was so simple ! Probably Deluge is sending these CCs at some point, thanks a lot !!!

Not really, will simply disable the MIDI CC in in the Octa and i’m done ! Thanks for the help guys, this forum rocks !
