Am I right in thinking that AH+FX can’t pass MIDI notes from the MIDI In to the Thru or the Out?
I wanted to use AH+FX as an audio interface and as a MIDI interface, to pass MIDI notes from Ableton Live to hardware synths connected to AH+FX’s MIDI out.
I just can’t get it to work, so I’m assuming it’s just not possible. I can’t find a definitive answer in the manual or online. Does anyone here know for sure?
Correct. Unfortunately, while Elektron devices do work as an audio interface they do not function as a USB midi interface.

Not challenging the previous answer, only clarifying for someone who might come across this in the future - AH+FX can pass notes from MIDI In to Midi Thru via the DIN5 ports… but MIDI via USB does not interface with MIDI via DIN5 on any of the Elektron units that I’m aware of.
Doesn’t really help your situation… but there are upsides (mainly with other Elektron units) in being able to bring MIDI in from two different sources that the machine can respond to while avoiding midi loop issues, mainly transport and clock.
