No elkas

Yeah, bummer. Is the analog craze starting to diminish?

Don’t think so. I’d rather say the 400k+ target for what one might call an oddity synth killed it. Paired with some issues with indiegogo, as they started with a “non-refundable” campaign and encountered some issues with changing it into refundable (or only claimed to encounter?).

It’s a pretty over-saturated market right now.
It’s funny, in 2008 and 2009 I had to scour eBay for anything analog I could get my hands on and it was all older synths.
There was barely a market for true analog.
Now it seems like you can’t throw a rock without hitting a new analog synth of some sort or another being released by every company under the sun.

Someone needs to corner the market on a multi-oscillator wavetable synth that’s driven by user-created single-cycle waves and long-form sampled sound sources with a pure VCA/VCF signal path.
Like a hardware version of Absynth.
Maybe a few analog/digital effects at the end of the chain.
Allow the sampler to play polyphonically and do rhythms as well.
Maybe with a cool built in sequencer and multiple outs.

ARE YOU WRITING THIS DOWN, ELEKTRON?!

This is to a certain extent covered by a cheapo Blofeld with SL license, isn’t it?

The Blofeld has a pretty corny amp and filter section, though.
I’m talking about something far richer.

They made some mistakes during the campaign, the refunds were one of them. Others were, that they did not clear the rights to the Synthex which still is in the hands of Maggi, who himself is working on the Synthex 2 right now. (Elka only licensed the Synthex from Maggi)

Also the P6 came out with practically the same price tag and a quite similar feature set but as a new instruments and not just NOS, with all the quirks and problems that come with that…

All in all I would say the Elka is too niche and the company couldn’t build the trust that would be needed to make this appealing to a broader target group.
