Well said. I’m not thinking about whether I’m too old to be playing Nintendo games – I’m asking, how is Nintendo so consistent at making games that appeal to all ages? Something that gets overlooked in these conversations is that Nintendo just has really good taste, so their games have a rich texture that other games don’t. Just listen for the influences in their soundtracks: you’ll hear jazz fusion, funk, latin, ragtime – not the standard issue saccharine EDM, cinematic groany strings, etc. This kind of attention to detail permeates everything they make.
BOTW/TOTK aren’t somehow diminished because they’re not “mature” – the broad appeal makes them even greater achievements.
Yes! Of course Nintendo’s gameplay is almost always among the best of the best for their big titles, but the attention to detail and the pure joy they manage to instill are a major component of what bring me back to NIntendo. To your point about soundtracks - BotW and TotK’s soundtracks create a sense of mystery and isolation mixed with contemplation. It’s a mood I’ve never found elsewhere. Metroid Prime’s OST is the reason I make music. The jazz/ fusion influences in Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart OSTs are more or less entirely unique in the gaming landscape, uplifting, bouncy, fun. And those things feel tied in to the overall experience rather than being tacked on. Other games and companies do this as well but nobody does it as consistently as Nintendo.
In short, Nintendo’s vibes are immaculate more often than they’re not.
scream it loud from the rooftops, Nintendo rules.
I want Phendrana Drifts on loop at my funeral
The Deep Phendrana version. I want my funeral to be a party.
Chozo Ruins has a 909 beat as well
That explains why it’s my other favorite Metroid Prime song.
COD has to come to the Switch 2, as Microsoft felt it necessary to make a deal with Nintendo when acquiring Activision as part of their efforts to satisfy the concerns of the Federal Trade Commission regarding competition and monopolies.
“Microsoft and Nintendo have now negotiated and signed a binding 10-year legal agreement to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo players - the same day as Xbox, will full features and content parity - so they can experience Call of Duty just as Xbox and PlayStation gamers enjoy Call of Duty.”
I’m really looking forward to the Switch 2, as the original console is now feeling so underpowered! Can’t wait to see the next Mario 3D platformer and Mario Kart 9 on better hardware - Nintendo is so good at bringing out the best in its machines.
Actually, who am I kidding. It’ll be a KK Slider jukebox and coffee will be served by a giant pigeon ![]()
Will be great to get camera slammed in cod on a 60 fps, handheld device.
Super Mario Wonder made me feel like a kid again. I had a Sega growing up, so I didn’t have the nostalgia attached to Mario, but they captured the fun and joy that video games lost somewhere along the way and replaced with tedious fetch quests or following a glowing arrow.
Yeah, about that.
Adult content aside, I’ll definitely be buying a Switch 2. I have the original Switch 1, never upgraded to OLED. There are a lot of good games for Switch, the Zelda & Mario titles are almost always great, and Switch is great for travel.
No hype for me though. I’ll wait until I don’t have to fight children in line to get one.
Looks like this Thursday’s the day! (for the official reveal that is)
Fresh leak?
Rumors say, that there are already switch 2 consoles out in public, that were stolen from the factory.
Some insider podcast and multiple other sources confirming.
The Switch has the Parental Controls app fyi:
This made me realize how quickly time flies after a certain age. ![]()
I guess I will finally buy a Switch. I want to play Wonder and the new Zelda where you play as Zelda, but not the big open world ones. It just seemed to expensive when I only want to play the “Gameboy” games anyway.
Why do people buy a switch when a Steamdeck can run all the retro games now?
