Playing more of MKW. The courses are just insanely beautifully made. Rainbow Road is a four part trip, it’s part Tiffany lamps, part glitter rivers, part flying. There are other courses too that look fantastic - DK Spaceport is like driving through the original arcade game, and Sky High Sundae is a Homer-esque confectionery dream.
In the past I’d lament just driving through these little worlds and not being able to take the whole place in but I have to remind myself that now I can in the free roam mode. It’s great to chill and explore and there are some fun challenges too, like the one at the top of DK Spaceport.
Personally I like the new Grand Prix setup, MK8 was the original MK format perfected, it had to change and this point to point is a pretty good way to try something new. Also, not seen it talked about much but the karts have weight now and make the jostling and scrapping feel much more interesting.
Yes, honestly would make for a great system on plane or train rides where you prop it up and have limited space.
I’ve refrained for the moment and look forward to picking one up once more titles have landed, ie Duskbloods and Prime 4.
That said I’d be curious to see what form the ‘Switch Lite’ takes this time around, if and when the OG Switch finally sunsets, perhaps in a couple years we’ll see a smaller size variant that’s more akin to a Switch than a Lite.
In any case the Switch 2 seems like a real solid device, cool reading people’s reports.
I agree. But am I wrong or aren’t the laps laps anymore? I honestly can’t tell if the courses repeat parts but with variations or if the courses are more of a start to finish trip situation. My impression is that it will be hard to remember these tracks and things like hidden paths etc.
When playing the 24 player online races last night I noticed that the race started in the last selected area and then blended into the new area as the race progressed
Switch 2 feels phenomenal to me. Screen on device is excellent, and plugged into a 4K HDR OLED television is bliss. It just works in such a wonderful way.
The size is really nice, I think. I was worried about it being too big, but the official carry case that Nintendo is selling doesn’t really bulk up the device at all and offers great protection when in a bag. Definitely way more manageable than a steam deck, which I also love but will probably turn into a proper emulation machine at this point for me. (The player icons on the screen for the Nintendo Classics really piss me off and feel like they could burn in on an OLED tv.)
I have only had maybe an hour or two with it since I’m in the middle of a move, but Mario Kart World seems like a phenomenal game, and the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour game is a joy for a technically inclined person like me. Such a peaceful vibe and so many cool things to learn. Honestly worth every bit of the $10 Nintendo is charging, and the more time I spend with it, the more I understand not packing it in with the system. It’s definitely not for everyone, and it doesn’t exactly demonstrate a new frontier for gaming like Wii Sports did years ago, but it’s an experience I’m happy to opt into. They really went above and beyond with it. Highly recommended to anyone with a Switch 2 that also hangs around on a forum like this.
I have a question, now that I got a Switch 2, I have two Switch consoles in my home, what are the best games to play on two consoles via local multi or online multiplayer, that you know? I know all the couch coop ones but now a new avenue opened
I played a little bit of mario kart world and liked it, but I‘m stuck on Breath of the Wild again, with 60fps and higher resolution that world feels even more like home.
First night with four friends and Kart. We had a lot of fun, Knockout Mode especially! I‘m really looking forward to having more of these nights, might also dabble with Jamboree at some point.
I read that it has a lot less people/NPCs in it due to CPU. So it doesn’t feel as alive. Probably plays best on a console. That is just what I read, I have no experience with it, but I was considering buying it.
